Mixed martial arts career

Early career

According to his Strikeforce introduction, Spång began fighting at the age of four in a boxing gym with his father, a professional boxer in Sweden. Spang became a competitive gymnast at age 15.

Spång made his professional MMA debut in October 2008. He won his first three fights all in the first round.

In addition to MMA fighting, Spång has boxed professionally at super middleweight with two decision victories in 2009.[1]

Spång currently works with self-help guru Jacob Harrington for his mental game when preparing for an upcoming match in the cage.

Strikeforce

In September 2011, Spång signed a four fight deal with Strikeforce to fight in their welterweight division.[2]

He made his debut against Joe Ray on September 23, 2011 at Strikeforce Challengers: Larkin vs. Rossborough.[3] He won the fight by unanimous decision. In his next fight, Spång faced Ricky Legere on January 7, 2012 at Strikeforce: Rockhold vs. Jardine.[4][5] He lost the fight via unanimous decision.

In his third fight for the organisation, Spång replaced Bobby Voelker to face Nah-Shon Burrell on May 19, 2012 at Strikeforce: Barnett vs. Cormier.[6][7] He rebounded from the loss in his last fight by stopping Burrell by TKO in the first round.

Ultimate Fighting Championship

Following the dissolution of Strikeforce, Spång was brought over to the Ultimate Fighting Championship. He made his promotional debut against fellow newcomer from Strikeforce Adlan Amagov on April 6, 2013 at UFC on Fuel TV 9.[8] Amagov dominated the fight from start to finish, defeating Spång by unanimous decision. Following the loss Spang was released from the promotion.[9]

Resurrection Fighting Alliance

On June 7, 2013 it was announced that Spång had signed with Resurrection Fighting Alliance (RFA).[10][11] He made his debut against Alan Jouban on August 16, 2013 at RFA 9.[12][13] After two back-and-forth rounds, Spang lost by TKO in the third.
