Breach Candy Hospital is a hospital located in Mumbai, India. One of the most renowned and prestigious hospitals in India, it is also one of the most expensive and located in the tony Breach Candy area of South Mumbai.
Its doctors are among the most recognised in their fields. The hospital has catered to most of Mumbai's elite and wealthy.
History
It was established in 1950 at the upmarket Breach Candy area in South Mumbai, and designed by an English architect Claude Batley. Many famous Bollywood stars have given birth to their children at this hospital, including Bollywood superstar Sridevi who gave birth to her daughter Khushi here in 2000, Karishma Kapoor who gave birth to son Kiaan Raj Kapoor in 2010 and actress Sonali Bendre who gave birth to son Ranveer.
Infrastructure
Breach Candy is a 212-bed hospital. It is well equipped, with a full suite of modern diagnostic equipment.
Notable patients
- Former Indian Prime Minister, Atal Bihari Vajpayee underwent a knee surgery at the hospital.[1]
- Dhirubhai Ambani,who was admitted to the hospital, breathed his last on July 6, 2002 after a major stroke.
- Vilasrao Deshmukh, a former Chief Minister of Maharashtra, was suffering from critical illness and was admitted to the hospital in the first week of August 2012. He was diagnosed with both liver and kidney failure.[2][3][4][5][6]
- Priyanka Chopra's father, Dr.Ashok Chopra died of cancer in the hospital.
- Kajol suffered from a miscarriage due to ectopic pregnancy at the hospital.
- Bollywood actor Shah Rukh Khan hae undergone a knee surgery at the hospital.
- Socialite and philanthropist Parmeshwar Godrej passed away on October 11, 2016 due to a lung ailment at the hospital.
