Professor Dr Bishal Nath Upreti (born April 22, 1951) is a Nepali Geologist and Professor at Department of Geology, Tri-Chandra Campus, Tribhuvan University.

Key qualifications

· For over 14 years worked as the Head of the Central Department of Geology at Kirtipur Campus and the Department of Geology, Tri-Chandra Campus, Tribhuvan University.

· Nearly 27 years of professional experience in research in the field of geology in general and Nepalese geology in particula, and over 19 years of teaching in undergraduate and post graduate level.

· Participated in trainings in Engineering Geology and other fields in universities and institutions of France, Japan, Switzerland and India.

· Supervising students of Geology for M.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees. Two students completed PhD under his co-supervision.

· Published about 44 research papers and abstracts in international and national scientific journals, and in addition published a large number of articles in Geology, Environment and other related fields.

· Co-Editor of the book on Geology of the Nepal Himalaya: Recent Advances Elsevier Science Ltd. UK (Journal of Asian Earth Sciences).

· Co-Editor of the book on Resource book on Landslide hazard management and control in the Hindukush-Himalaya region. International Centre for Integrated Mountain Development (ICIMOD), Kathmandu .

The winner of the 2015 C.N.R. Rao Prize for scientific research.[3] The Nepali geologist received the award “for his outstanding contributions to the investigation of the stratigraphy and tectonics of the Nepal Himalayas and our understanding of the geology of Nepal”.[4]
