Betsy McLaughlin

Betsy McLaughlin (born 1962 in Orange County, California) is the former CEO of Hot Topic, Inc. (HOTT:NASDAQ). She graduated from University of California, Irvine. During McLaughlin's time with Hot Topic, the corporation made "Fortune's 100 Best Places to Work in America" list.[1] McLaughlin succeeded Hot Topic founder Orv Madden as CEO in 2000, when he partially retired. In 2001, McLaughlin founded the second Hot Topic division called "Torrid", a plus size chain for young women.

McLaughlin has received a number of awards for her unique "think outside the box" approach to management, specifically the recruiting and training of a primarily young work force to manage brick and mortar locations. McLaughlin is credited with Hot Topic's first official book of policies and procedures, introduced in 1993. McLaughlin also introduced Basic Management Training to the company's employees in the same year.[2]

In 2011, McLaughlin resigned from Hot Topic, Inc.[3]
