Bernardo Rodríguez Arias, nicknamed Berni Rodríguez (Spanish pronunciation: [ˈberni roˈðɾiɣeθ]; born June 7, 1980) is a Spanish retired professional basketball player. He is 1.97 m (6 ft 5 ¾ in) tall.

Professional career

Rodríguez began his professional career with Unicaja Macias of the Liga EBA, the farm team of CB Málaga, during the 1998–99 season. He then moved to the senior club, CB Málaga of the Spanish ACB League, for the 1999–00 season.

In June 2012, after 13 seasons in Málaga, Rodríguez left Unicaja. The club decided to retire his number 5.[1]

One month-and-a-half later, he signed with UCAM Murcia, where he decided to play with the number 41, out of respect his old number 5 at Málaga.[2]

In July 2016, Rodríguez announced his retirement from playing professional basketball.[3]

Spanish national team

Rodríguez played with the Spanish national basketball teams that won the gold medal at the 2006 FIBA World Championship, the silver medal at the EuroBasket 2007, and the silver medal at the 2008 Summer Olympics.

After retirement

Just five days after announcing his retirement, Rodríguez signed on as sporting director of Baloncesto Sevilla, the last club where he played.[4]
