Balamory (series 1)

Balamory is a British live action children's television series on British television (BBC One, BBC Two and CBeebies), about a fictional small island community called Balamory in Scotland. It was produced between 10 February 2002 and 14 April 2005 by Balamory Ltd..

Miss Hoolie is holding a fish supper for the children's grandparents. Spencer makes some decorations to jazz up the nursery. Miss Hoolie asks Spencer to make a fishing game, which he does, with some help from Archie, but Spencer forgets to order the fish and chips for Miss Hoolie. Without fish and chips, there wouldn't be a fish supper. Spencer goes to Pocket and Sweet's, but they don't have enough fish. Penny says to try the fish and chip trailer at the pier. The trailer doesn't have enough fish either. Suzie and Spencer go off quickly and buy some fresh fish from the fishermen, and the fish are cooked at the trailer. Spencer brings the fish to the nursery to eat. They are delicious!
2"The Power Cut"February 17, 2002 (2002-02-17)
There is no electricity in the nursery today so Archie decides to invent a TV that doesn't use power. With the help of Spencer he tells the story of the Three Goats Gruff
3"Beach Ball"February 24, 2002 (2002-02-24)
Josie is locked out of her sports cupboard and couldn't get a ball for games today. She spots a flattened beach ball in Miss Hoolie's office. When Miss Hooile finds it she thinks it was a hat or a pancake... It's too flat. Josie can't blow it up. Josie takes the beach ball to PC Plum hid in her T-shirt, who was cleaning the room. He blows it up with his bicycle pump. First PC Plum thinks why Josie needed a bicycle, she jumps everywhere. Josie tried out its bouncing, but it crashed to everywhere. But the ball has a leak, they think it was a snake. Josie frightened and dropped the snakeball, so it crashed everything again. PC Plum wanted to fix it with some paper glue, but the box is empty. Josie wants to buy some new glue but they are sure paper glue won't be strong enough. They should look for some stronger glue at Edie. Josie takes the ball to Edie to fix. She's having tea from yellow kettles and cups. Unfortunately Edie gave all her glue for Archie. Edie fixes the leak with a sticking plaster. Then Miss Hoolie, Josie and the children go to the beach to play with the beach ball. They all have such a great time.
4"The Missing Scarecrow"March 3, 2002 (2002-03-03) "

This morning, Edie notices that the scarecrow is missing from the nursery vegetable patch. It had vanished. Edie asks PC Plum if he could help find the missing scarecrow. He was looking at his teas at the moment. Edie described the scarecrow as a missing person emergency. Brown flippy-floppy hat, black trousers, red scarf, carrot for nose, brown coat and a pumpkin head. PC Plum found all these things in his cupboard. He'd mistaken it for a burglar, so he pushed it. He tells Edie he had a thief in the vegetable patch, and he arrested it. Edie thought he was so brave. PC Plum tells he had him pushed and his head came off... Edie gets thought he arrested the scarecrow, so she describes PC Plum as a ""silly sausage"". Edie takes the broken scarecrow to Archie to build it up again. If anyone could fix it, Archie could. And he does, too, with a little help from all the children:

Archie builds a new scarecrow, better than the previous, he only uses the pumpkin head and the carrot nose from the old one, and he used a cleaning stick head to make hair from it. He collected some sticks and put them in cross. Archie hung an old coat, a new hat and a kilt on it. They built it up in the nursery, it was a recycled scarecrow. They drew the eyes and they threw some wool on it. Archie found an old red scarf in the castle and hung it to the scarecrow. Suddenly all the children wanted to hang their scarfs onto the scarecrow. They sang together ""Dingle dangle scarecrow"" song, and all acted out he/she was a scarecrow. They had a great time."
5"Storm in a Nursery"March 10, 2002 (2002-03-10)
Edie arrives at the nursery looking for a lifejacket and sounding worried about her sailing trip with PC Plum. Miss Hoolie tries to make Edie feel better by saying how she loves sailing. It works. Edie goes home all excited and daring to go on PC Plum's boat. Unfortunately, a storm means they have to cancel the boat trip. Edie is fed up and PC Plum sends her along to see Josie, who takes Edie on a pretend sea trip. The children and Miss Hoolie go, too. It is a great, fun day on the ocean waves for Edie after all.
6"Walking the Dog"March 17, 2002 (2002-03-17)
Today, Josie Jump is looking after a dog named Rotten Ralph. She goes to see Edie McCredie for advice on how to keep the dog amused, but Edie thinks Ralph is a boy. P.C. Plum gives Josie some tips on looking after the dog, and they take it for a walk in the park with some of the nursery children.

Spencer comes this morning with a bag of coloured paper that he doesn't know what to do with. Miss Hoolie tells him to visit Archie, who has ideas of making party hats and a kite tail. In the end, Archie and Spencer make a book. Suzie thinks the book would make a perfect photo album for the children at the nursery, one they could keep to remind them of their seal trip. Penny gives Spencer some cameras. Spencer and the children dash down to the harbour to catch a boat. What a wonderful day they had. And what a wonderful photo album they made.
9"Hair Cut"April 7, 2002 (2002-04-07)
PC Plum is having trouble keeping his long floppy fringe out of his eyes. He tries out a visor, but his helmet keeps falling off while he's on his bike. Edie suggests some rather undignified solutions, like curlers and a shower cap. P.C. Plum refuses these suggestions, and goes to Archie for advice. Archie realises that P.C. Plum is making excuses, and says that the only solution is to get his hair cut.
10"Jungle Story"April 14, 2002 (2002-04-14)
Miss Hoolie hopes to take the children into the garden, but it is raining. Josie pops in. Miss Hoolie asks her to tell the children a story about animals. She doesn't know much about animals, so she asks PC Plum. Josie has fun pretending to be a beetle, a sheepdog and a pigeon. PC Plum keeps getting phone calls, so Josie visits Edie McCredie. Edie tells Josie about the jungles of Africa, so Josie comes back and tells the children a fantastic jungle story.
11"Feeding the Lambs"April 21, 2002 (2002-04-21)
P.C. Plum arrives at the nursery feeling very sleepy, because he has been up most of the night helping the local farmer feed his lambs. P.C. Plum thinks that the children would like to see the lambs, but if he is going to go with them, he will have to be woken up. Edie takes P.C. Plum to see Josie Jump, to see if she can help.

Spencer calls in to tell Miss Hoolie that Tommy Mackenzie's mother has a newborn baby girl. Spencer goes to buy a present from Pocket and Sweet's. He gets caught playing with things on the shelves and ends up buying everything but a present for the new baby. Archie has a great idea. With the children, he makes a beautiful mobile from old coat hangers, string and painted paper plates. Spencer hangs the mobile over Tommy's new baby sister's cot. She seems to love her first present.

Poor PC Plum has a sore throat. Miss Hoolie makes him some honey and lemon tea. Edie's bus is causing a traffic jam, so PC Plum asks her to move it. Because he'd lost his voice, Edie thinks it is a game. PC Plum tries to write things down but is running out of paper. Josie Jump shows him another way to say what he means. PC Plum gets the hang of it, but then Edie moves her bus anyway. So Josie and PC Plum play charades with the children instead.

Edie McCredie arrives at the Balamory Nursery complaining about the appearance of strange road signs which have popped up all over Balamory- they have clown faces on them. The clowns have been put there by Archie, but he likes them so much he is oblivious to Edie's pleas for him to take them down. She passes the buck to P.C. Plum. As it happens, P.C. Plum is captivated by the clowns, and helps Archie find a place to display them where they won't cause problems.

After Josie Jump teaches Spencer how to play golf, Miss Hoolie, the children and Spencer make a crazy golf course in the cafe.

Miss Hoolie asks PC Plum to take the children to the beach to collect shells. PC Plum can't make sense of the tidal timetable so Archie suggests they use a sandboat to show when the tide is coming in.

It's a play day in Balamory. Archie is looking after a boy called Liam, but Liam is unhappy because he was supposed to spend the day with his cousin Stevie. Stevie has been called way to drive the Balamory ferry. Archie asks Edie for ideas of places to take Liam on a day trip, but she thinks the only solution is to take him on the ferry, so he can see Stevie.

Miss Hoolie thinks she could have a ceilidh. Suzie says she'd organize it all by herself. She gets Penny to do the refreshments and Spencer to fix the band. Then Suzie becomes very tired from dancing. She needs help, so Josie leads the dancing. Later on, Suzie recovers enough to teach the children the Balamory Two-Step.

Archie wants to show the nursery children his latest invention- a milk dispenser. Miss Hoolie says that he should show them where milk comes from in the first place. He knows that Milk comes from cows, so he borrows a model of a cow from Edie McCredie. But he still doesn't know exactly how cows are milked, so he needs to see P.C. Plum.

Today PC Plum is trying to organise a birthday party for Callum, his nephew. Callum is a bit of a freak because he never plays with toys- he likes to sit in boxes and pretend they are boats, planes etc. P.C. Plum and Archie make a cardboard rocket as a present for Callum. Miss Hoolie brings party hats and a birthday cake from Pocket and Sweet's shop, so PC Plum arranges a party, but forgets to buy a gift for his nephew, so Miss Hoolie suggests a visit to someone who can help and he tries to organise a birthday party for his nephew
26"Musical Hamper"August 4, 2002 (2002-08-04)
Penny is organizing a picnic lunch. But she needs the hamper to put everything in. She goes to Archie's castle to fetch it. Archie had made it into a musical hamper. It plays a different tune every time you open the lid. When Penny brings it back, there is no sign of the picnic lunch. She calls in PC Plum to find out where it had gone. Suzie solves the mystery. She remembers that she'd sold PC Plum the food for the picnic. PC Plum returns everything, and the children go on a picnic. They eat, drink and play musical statues to the sound of Archie's amazing musical hamper.

Miss Hoolie asks Penny if there's anything in the shop that she could send to her friend in London from Balamory. There is nothing in Pocket and Sweet's shop, but Spencer comes up with the perfect solution.

He said, they didn't need costumes, they did need magic. And he showed some carton, and he cut it to ribbons. The children in the tea party were dancing with those colourful ribbons without costumes, so Spencer saved the day and Josie's organise.

When Penny arrives at the nursery, Suzie isn't there, so Penny asks PC Plum to help find Suzie. PC Plum spots a trail of jelly beans, which lead to Suzie, who is fast asleep in the nursery garden. Suzie then tells the children a story about a slow tortoise and a speedy hare.

Edie thinks the children might like to listen to a story tape while they're in her bus. Miss Hoolie lends her a story book she found, and Edie goes to see Josie Jump to use her tape recorder. Josie helps with the story and does lots of funny actions. When Edie listens to the tape, it doesn't seem as good without the actions. She goes to ask Spencer to add some music, but he does more than that - he adds creaks and boings and many other sounds. It sounds great. Edie comes back to the cafe, and Miss Hoolie helps to make the story tape.

Today Edie is supposed to referee a basketball match, but she doesn't know anything about basketball. Josie tries to teach her the rules, but she finds them too complicated. As it turns out, Penny Pocket plays basketball, and agrees to referee the game in her place

A pantomime for the children in Balamory Hall. Miss Hoolie takes the role of Cinderella, with Edie as Prince Charming. Archie and PC Plum put in star turns as the Ugly Sisters, Spencer is Buttons, and Josie is Dandini. Finally, Suzie and Penny put in an appearance as the two Fairy Godmothers.

He attempts to cadge a bun off Miss Hoolie at the nursery, where the children are baking, and he attempts to get one at Pocket & Sweet's. Failing, he decides to make his own buns, and makes a mess. He feels glum, and enlists the help of Josie to cheer him up.

At the nursery, one of the children named Annabell is tired because the noise in the night has kept her awake. Miss Hoolie helps her get to sleep and the gang plays a sleeping game with the children.

Spencer accidentally drops one of his craft pom-poms down the sink drain and calls the plumber.

This morning, Penny and Suzie are upset because their customers are complaining about litter. Penny goes to see if Edie knows who the litter bug is. She didn't know, but had noticed piles of litter around the town. Penny then visits PC Plum, who, with Miss Hoolie's help, watches for the litter bug to strike. The litter bug does strike. It is Edie! She has a hole in her bin bag and had been dropping litter by accident. To help to clean up the mess, Miss Hoolie, Edie and PC Plum sing the Litter Bug Song.

Penny and Josie are at Faith's house celebrating a musical party with a music note cake, musical instruments and a musical film.

PC Plum pops into the nursery to see Miss Hoolie. He is worried about Mrs McLeod. She doesn't get out much. PC Plum wonders what he could do to bring winter magic into her home, so Miss Hoolie tells him to go and see Spencer. He's always full of ideas. As usual, Spencer is a big help. He shows PC Plum how to make snowflake pictures using paper doilies as stencils. The pictures are lovely, but PC Plum decides it would be even better if he could turn Mrs McLeod's house into a real winter wonderland. He needs a snow machine to do that, so he goes to Archie's castle. Archie invents a fabulous snow machine. Next, PC Plum and Archie go to visit Mrs McLeod. They help her grandchildren decorate her house with snow and they even make a snowman.

Josie Jump helps Amanda and her mum to do some shopping at the big supermarket, but she forgets to bring the shopping list.

Miss Hoolie organises a daffodil tea party for the children at Ruth's house, so Edie and Josie brings some daffodils along for the party.

PC Plum asks Miss Hoolie if she heard any strange noises in the night. She tells him that she had been kept awake by a deep booming voice that said "yoghurt pots" over and over again. At first, they can't figure out what it means, but then Miss Hoolie remembers that Archie has a huge collection of yoghurt pots. So PC Plum dashes over to Archie's castle and gets to the bottom of the mystery. Archie had been testing his new invention in the night. It's a very noisy music machine. PC Plum tells Archie not to use it again. Archie is disappointed, so PC Plum takes it to Spencer, who might put it to good use. Spencer tries out Archie's machine and loves it. He tries speaking into it and singing into it. Then he comes up with a brilliant idea - to use it as a sing-along machine. Spencer and PC Plum bring the machine to the nursery, and all the nursery children have a turn at singing along with Archie's invention.

It's a day off at the nursery. P.C. Plum has promised to take Miss Hoolie out for the day, but he has double-booked himself. He also promised to go on a fishing trip with Spencer on the same day. Miss Hoolie is waiting for him in the cafe, but he is getting ready to go fishing with Spencer. P.C. Plum turns to Edie McCredie for advice on how to remedy te situation. Edie agrees to go fishing with Spencer, but where can he take Miss Hoolie for the day?

The nursery children are eagerly awaiting a visit from a bassoon player. Archie decides to come along too, and he events a musical instrument to play along with her. Josie is unimpressed by it, so Archie enlists the help of Spencer to make it more musical.

After this, PC Plum goes to see Spencer to ask him how to DJ. Spencer puts him through his paces. PC Plum has a great time. Spencer gives PC Plum glittery things to decorate the disco with. The disco is a huge success. PC Plum makes a great DJ and amazes everyone with his dancing too!

It is a really wet day, so the children can't go to the woods. Josie decides to tell them a story instead, a story to help them know what it feels like to be in the woods. She tries to buy some things to help her tell the story, but instead of finding a new way of telling a story, Josie just makes a terrible mess. She thinks that Archie might be able to help. Archie shows Josie his feely invention. It is a special box that he could put objects into for Josie to touch. The box only has one set of hand holes, though, so Archie tells Josie about his special story blanket. When they arrive with the blanket, all the children sit underneath it. Josie tells the children the story of the hen called Hilary who goes for a walk in the woods looking for somewhere to lay her egg. Archie has things for the children to feel under the blanket, so they felt they were in the woods. They have a great time.

Archie has free tickets for the funfair, but he's afraid to go on the rides, Josie Jump and others arrive to the fairground rides. Archie gets free tickets to the funfair but is afraid to go on any of the rides.

So Archie goes over to find out. Spencer tells him that the Big City is busy with traffic, and tests Archie on the rules for crossing the road safely. Archie gets a bit muddled up and Spencer says to practise the Green Cross Code before taking the children to the Science Centre. Archie calls on PC Plum, who is a big help. He shows Archie how to cross the road safely and even agrees to go with him on the trip to make sure the children get to the Science Centre safely. And Spencer was right, the Big City is very busy, full of people and cars, but Archie crossed safely with PC Plum and the children. They had a wonderful afternoon at the Science Centre.
45"Doctors and Nurses"TBA
Miss Hoolie tells Archie that the children are playing a hospital game. She asks him to invent something to play with, something that doctors and nurses use. Archie calls on Penny and Suzie for some ideas. He looks at all the tubs and boxes, but he doesn't get any ideas at all. So he calls on Edie. Edie visited her cousin in a hospital. She shows Archie a video she had made of her visit. Back at home, Archie makes a pretend X-ray machine. Archie could X-ray all the dolls and teddies and bandage them up as well. The children love playing doctors and nurses. Archie uses old tubs and boxes to make something doctors and nurses might use in hospitals.

Then Josie and Spencer are ice-skating on the mainland and have a very slippery time of it.

Spencer wants to play his guitar for the nursery children. He enlists the help of Archie to decorate his guitar for the occasion, but Archie removes the strings and uses them to make a marionette. Luckily, Josie shows Spencer how to play air guitar.

In the cafe, Miss Hoolie finds PC Plum's pump on her chair. Then PC Plum turns up. He is in such a muddle. He had lost his notebook with his list of things to do. He rushes to get his lifejacket from Spencer. Spencer didn't have PC Plum's lifejacket. He had given it to Edie to deliver. PC Plum doesn't have the pump he promised to lend Spencer. Everything is all muddled up. PC Plum goes home, but there is no lifejacket. Edie hadn't delivered it yet. He tries to make a flask of tea, but there is none left. He realises he still has a long list of things to do and very little time. So PC Plum asks Josie to help him because she's so good at rushing around. He sets off to meet Edie and get this lifejacket. Josie goes to the cafe to get the flask filled with tea and takes the pump to Spencer's house. Thanks to Josie, it all happens in time for Miss Hoolie and PC Plum to go sailing. They have a terrific time. Balamory looks very pretty from the water.
