Astra Agro Lestari

Astra Agro Lestari (AAL) is an Indonesian palm oil company. It is a subsidiary of PT Astra International Tbk. At least in 2004, it controlled extensive land banks.[1] It has two concessions on peatlands in Riau, with an estimated total area of 20,000 hectares. [2] According to Greenpeace, 2007, it has seven concessions on peat in Central Kalimantan. [3] Greenpeace also reported hotspots on five Astra Agro concessions in Riau, two of which were on peatlands. [4] Joko Supriyono was or is a director at Astra Agro and secretary of a palm oil industry lobby group. [5] He said companies had no choice, but to continue establishing plantations on restricted areas. [6]
