Steven Rodriguez (November 13, 1988 – January 18, 2015), professionally known as ASAP Yams (stylized as A$AP Yams), was an American music executive, A&R, and co-founder of the A$AP Worldwide record label. Hailing from the Harlem neighborhood of Manhattan, New York, he is one of the three founding members of the hip hop collective A$AP Mob, from which he adopted his moniker.

Career

In 2006, A$AP Yams formed the hip hop collective internationally known as A$AP Mob, with fellow New Yorkers, now known as A$AP Bari and A$AP Illz. The collective would later include A$AP Rocky, A$AP Ferg, A$AP Nast and A$AP Twelvyy, among others.

Throughout his career as a music executive, Yams would executive produce many of A$AP Mob's and their members' albums. He executive produced A$AP Mob's 2012 mixtape Lord$ Never Worry, A$AP Rocky's 2013 studio album LONG.LIVE.A$AP, A$AP Ferg's 2013 studio album Trap Lord, and A$AP Rocky's 2015 studio album AT.LONG.LAST A$AP.

In September 2014, Yams appeared in the Noisey documentary "A$AP Rocky: SVDDXLNY" alongside A$AP Rocky, A$AP Ferg, A$AP Nast and A$AP Twelvyy.

Death

On January 18, 2015, Yams was found dead at the age of 26.[1][2] The cause of death was ruled an overdose due to mixed drug intoxication.[3] However ASAP Mob members and affiliates, say Yams died due to his sleep apnea, which caused asphyxiation and pulmonary aspiration.[4][5][6]
