The 1992–93 NBA season was the Spurs' 17th season in the NBA and 26th season as a franchise.[1] During the offseason, Terry Cummings suffered a serious knee injury and only played in the final eight games of the season. With the acquisition of Dale Ellis from the Milwaukee Bucks and signing free agent Vinny Del Negro, the Spurs finished second in the Midwest Division with a 49–33 record. David Robinson and Sean Elliott were both selected for the 1993 NBA All-Star Game. In the playoffs, they defeated the 4th-seeded Portland Trail Blazers 3–1 in the Western Conference Quarterfinals, but lost 4–2 to the Phoenix Suns in the semifinals. It was also their final year playing at HemisFair Arena. Following the season, Elliott was traded to the Detroit Pistons, and Avery Johnson signed as a free agent with the Golden State Warriors.
