Yo folks! We've got a small new mechanic brewin' up! This one's a more economical way to explore a lot of potential smut content!

So far, our main attraction have been the animations, and though they're fun to do and very much worth the effort, they take a tremendous amount of time to make and set up, so it makes us need to pick and choose what will/won't "make the cut" to be visual smut :O!

We've already got a lot of eluding text 'n what not, but I thought a great solution would be to introduce Illustrations accompanied with a narrative, and we can call it STORIES~!

(The debut of this mechanic will be a more Lore illuminating narrative - and I'll be running a poll soon for the 15$+ folks to help make the character featured in it!)

Here's another WIP Mock I made in flash! I wanted to simulate a few more robust features we'd like to have for our dialogue system! A MAJOR ONE IN PARTICULAR is multi-character support!

Before we implement a feature like this, I like to do mocks so we can get an idea how it's going to function.

This particular mock focuses on a new mechanic for the game! DOUBLE CRITTERS! Having critters talk to eachother, or 2 talking at you, adds a whole variety of fun immersive elements, as well as can work as a really solid vehicle for carrying out narratives! Not all conversations need you to happen! So this feature serves a multitude of narrative purposes. Super stoked for it!

Not sure when we'll have it up and runnin, eventually haha.

Other than that, I've been workin on some character profiles! I wanted to have a general visual and a short synopsis for all of the Collab Tier folks! This way y'all can see who we have in our main cast, and we can start piecing together your involvement =)!

I didn't know how i wanted to lay these out, but I wanted them to be something cooler than a giant word document. I ran with a Trading Card aesthetic, and think it'd be pretty fun to have these printed sometime haha!

Along with this I finished a buncha new profiles for characters. You can see a lot of them in the gif there with the Coyotes! But also Oliver's and a few test ones for Melody, the arctic fox. Some of these characters you won't see till Act 3 - but figured I should make progress on them regardless.

Lastly I've been slowly cleaning this one up! SOOO MANY things to focus on with these more "close-up" shots. I'll likely be avoiding this sorta thing in the future xD! At least with the characters with a lot of moving parts lmao.

This scene will be super fun in game! Very stoked to see it all in, and hope y'all will really dig these two :>

It's beginning y'all =)

After our break, we got to cramming in a few new larger assets that'll set the stage for a bit of Act 2!

This Includes:

• Brand New Bridge Asset!
• Explorable bottom half of the forest!
• Ottershop!
• Explorable Field!

As I mentioned before, builds from here onward will likely be a bit messy as we aren't too concerned with polishing during this phase.

These builds will also start you off AFTER Act 1 - so you can hop right into the new action! (Right now, previous sex scenes aren't automatically unlocked, but ideally that'll be the case!)

WHEW!

Aight, not gonna lie, Blender's kind of a blast xD!

Since that last update - I wanted to do a lil loop of this mouse rubbing herself off :> In about an hour and a half I had something I dug, but thought, HMM, wouldn't it be MORE spicy if I added a dildo and a low poly vag?

Hell yeah it would.

I was super pleased to be able to model/rig/animate these additional pieces on a whim! It's great seeing how much more comfortable I've become with this program over the past few weeks. Just last month so much of this seemed so alien, but now I'm able to confidently mess with a ton of this to a decent degree of success :>

Additionally, I wanted to see if I could purposefully animate at a lower frame-rate to make sure each key was gonna be solid, then auto interpolate it up to have it smoother.

IN GENERAL, It kinda works!

I realized that the low-frame-rate animating actually lets me get away with "lazier/messier" key frames since the movements are so small, certain keys can "resolve themselves" simply by convenience of lower frames.

Throwing this at a higher frame rate kinda exposes a few of those areas where some jankness happens. I coulda smoothed it out, but I think it might be better animating with higher frame rate in mind in the future. It was a good experiment for sure :>

THERE ARE STILL a few things that I didn't get around to messing with unfortunately, but over all I'd say this was a very productive month of 3D!

Texturing/Rendering - There's a lot of tricks and aesthetics 3D can do, but a lot of it comes into how an actual texture is being handled. I actually just used colored UVs so I think I'm not able to take advantage of some of these other nodes for rendering. I didn't put too much time into, since I think it'd be better to just learn about unwrapping polys and painting in textures. Especially since I kinda wanna mess with pixel textures 'n what not in the future anyways.

Anywho, this sort of stuff I couldn't get to.

Singular Mesh - This entire mouse is made of of multiple meshes just smashed together. Though it works for the low-poly aesthetic, and I think was particularly handy as an intro to skin-weighting/rigging - I would like to get some experience on mashing meshes together and cleaning that up, as well as dealing with a singular full mesh in general. I think it would speed some things up, but I also think it could make things a lot harder.

For example, I made a separate "vagina" rig for the low poly vagina here. The "rig" is quite robust to accommodate for the complex details involved with penetration. So it was super convenient to easily rig JUST the vagina to the vagina rig, then I could parent the vagina rig to the main rig. Otherwise, if I was messing with a single mesh, it might be harder to completely separate the influence of bones on certain meshes.

I'm sure each method has its pros and cons - but the reality is a singular mesh is the way to go in the long run, so it's important to learn in the future.

Controllers - Rigging is only one part of the equation - mapping out proper controls sounds like an absolute must long term!

I was easily able to make this lil' loop without any sorta controllers, but I definitely ran into issues where larger-controllers would have been useful. A friend showed me some good 3D Animation workflow practice, and I definitely got away with bending some rules for a 9 frame loop - but I could easily see that workflow getting SO MESSY and broken for anything more complex.

That said, I don't intend on doing anything too complex - BUT it's still super important to figure out how to go about constraints with controllers. I didn't even mess with blendshapes either.

YO FOLKS~! We're back from our break =) I've got a few things I'll be sharing soon that I was messin' with over the past few weeks!

Till then, I wanted to give a bit of an update of what's next!

From here on, our monthly goals will be content~! We've got a lot of stuff already built out/written out, so plopping it in will be the biggest priority.

Moving forward, we want to release our builds a bit more messy By that I mean, likely to have bugs, likely to not have an entire experience included, likely to have sketch-stand-ins for things like sex animations etc. Obviously we will continue forward with our degree of polish, but for these monthly builds, we feel it's better to loosen up~

The main reason we haven't before, is because we wanted to make our splash for the public release, and we think we did a good job demonstrating what we're capable of. SO from here on out we can blaze forward with some content, and then go back and clean up as time permits.

The next build in a few days will include the bottom half of the forest, the shop, and the field areas to explore! It's barren at the moment, but it's there =) This build will also take place AFTER ACT 1 - so y'all don't have to go through anything to see the new stuff we're adding. We will likely be doing "Pre-built Save States" for these updates since the game is getting longer and longer.

WHEW! This month is blazing by quickly!

I wanted to make a post to catch y'all up on what I've been up to! LOTS AND LOTS of blender :>

As y'all know, I appreciate that minimalism visuals, and it's BASICALLY CRUCIAL if ya wanna get into the ins and outs of every step of the 3D process. I really didn't wanna get hung up on details, so this was by far the way to go!

A few weeks ago, I started "jumping" into lowpoly scultping, and had something roughed enough, "ghetto rigged" via parenting, enough to get familar with the animation workflow in blender!

I really just hopped into it ;)

Anyways, got a quick crash course into node compositing and general rendering, enough to spit out a lil gif.

Since then I've developed a new low-poly design, the lil mouse! I jumped into the Grease Pencil feature for some details (face) - I'd like to do 2D animation stuff for facial animation to save some time, but there's a LOT of funky stuff with that. SOOO this will likely be stand in and I'll have to actually have to do some hacky facial modeling/rigging.

Speaking of rigging!

I jumped into rigging fundamentals yesterday~! Most of this is generally weighted and performs pretty well! (as you can see from the first picture)

Today, I've got some extra picky rigging stuff to figure out, and THEN jump into making some good controllers for this. Once that's done, it's animation test time baybeee! I'll stick with the facial drawn stuff for now, but I will likely need to switch it up in the future.

Soul of Luca's been working close with me to maintain a lot of my original intent, while adding their own expertise to help develop things!

There's a few lil' areas we wanna clean up (particularly the ending sequences) and some areas we can expand on in the future, but we think this is in a great spot to release publically!

The Itch release is still a couple weeks or so out, but FOR NOW we'd love it if y'all could test this for us! We've included all the "cheats" still for convenience/speeding stuff up, but try to break things if you can, and report your findings to us.

Minor bugs likely won't be addressed immediately, but we're looking for CRITICAL game breaking things.

We do have Windows/Linux/Mac builds. But we don't have the Mac certificates yet.

OH AND The Critter Log is currently disabled. So don't worry about that!

New Highlight features:

• Various act 1 goodies like intro cinematics when starting a new game
• All new achievement notification for various stuff (sex scene unlocks, important items, tutorials)
• All-in-one notification for smaller items and powerups, gossip unlocks etc
• Fullscreen stretch toggle in Options menu (stretches game art proportionally to fill screen)
• Window scale factor in Options menu (for resizing pixel-perfect in windowed mode)
• Game options now saved across builds of the game (your window and audio settings will be remembered in future builds)

Other new features:

• Can talk to NPCs from behind
• Fast travel movie uses new dialogue ui
• All UIs use matching font with consistent shadow outline effect
• Penalty for dashrolling in plant quest minigame
• Gradient and npc portraits no longer flicker between gossip and dialogue UIs
• Selection animations in questlog, critterlog, start menu gallery
• Sound and music volume balancing, some new sound spotting

Bugs Fixed:

• infinite mirrors bug around borders of game window
• window flickers and resizes at game first launch
• could dashroll faster or slower depending on the direction you dashed
• player can navigate menus after choosing Yes or No on a confirmation screen
• 'press any key' didn't work for all keys or joysticks
• music test sound for music volume slider in Options plays at the Effects channel current volume
• menu animations get paused (timescale=0) in the pause screen
• music sometimes stops playing (partial fix)
• players can cheat in plant quest minigame by mashing both keyboard and joystick buttons
• several ways to summon penny when she has already landed
• navigating up or down in inventory plays 3x selection sounds

• ACT 1 RELEASE!

ITS HAPPENIN Y'ALL! We're absolutely launching Act 1 this month! (In a couple weeks, or even sooner depending if ya guys find any game-freezing bugs lmao)

But that means our monthly build, which will be either today or tomorrow is our ACT 1 FULL STRESS TEST.

This build includes a lot of tune ups and revamped interfaces and visuals. Content-wise, you can now see the full intro! It's a small little thing, but it finally gives a bit more info on how Rascal ended up in the forest in the first place :>

Anywho, We'd super appreciate everyone giving this a run and seeing if you can break anything!

We do not have linux/mac builds ready for stress testing, so this is mainly for Windows folks again.

That's first and foremost what's planned, and we'll have more info on this very soon whenever the build is out for y'all :>

• After Act 1's Release!

Aside from that! Assuming Act 1s legit release doesn't have any critically huge bugs, we'll be taking a bit of a break! It's good to take a step back and celebrate the successes lest we get too caught up in the grind!

Vixel will be out for a few weeks while his fam is visiting! He definitely deserves a good long break too!

I'll be keeping up with Act 2 assets! From here on, we want to make sure we're pushing forward with new content again since we've been doing a lot of cleaning up/polishing. So hopefully I'll build up a bank of assets ready for Vixel when he's back! :>

• "Carrot Month!"

But every year, I try to use a bit of August to celebrate general artistry! I call the "festivity" Carrot Month! (Should probably come up with a better name for it...) - But it's a thing I tried 2 years ago, that absolutely changed my art career path, in LITERALLY a month. It's all about shaking it up art-wise! Learning new tools for future endeavors 'n whatever. It's really about tackling that "I should do this..." thing that I've been putting off forever. We all have em!

SO THIS YEAR, I'm gonna jump into 3D! But particularly low-poly 3D. I wanna quickly jump into the entire workflow with very limited visuals, focusing on a minimal design to be able to "make things work" without needing to spend all the extra time needed when making more highly detailed things. It'll be a crash course of 3D, but one I've been meaning to do >literally forever<.

(Normally I'd drop my normal commitments entirely, but I absolutely wanna pump out more Act 2 assets :> So I'll be doing like, half of my time there, and half on the 3D stuff!)

I encourage other folks to do the same! It's so easy for the months to go by and some goals don't make any progress. It's very nice to just set a specific time and say, FUCK IT, I'm doing this. If you find yourself inspired and wanting to do the same, please share your progress on our Discord! I'll be doing the same :>

• Clean up artist?

I'm lookin' around for a clean up artist xD! Pixel animation is such a BUTT to clean up sometimes, and it's easy to get burnt out on an animation. Once I find someone, it should vastly speed up the process :> We've also been getting the resources to be able to even consider this, entirely thanks to you guys <3!

I have a few folks in mind that I'll be running some hypotheticals by =)!

• Finishing all of the Critters, and touching base with Collab Tiers

There's 3 new characters being introduced in Act 2, and 2-3 more in Act 3.

I want to get the Sprite Assets, and a brief bio of all of these characters. Then I can start reaching out to all the Collab Tier Patrons and we can start pow-wowing on a direction :>

We're not REMOTELY ready to start production on collab-tier content yet. But I'd like to touch base and get a bit of movement.

That said, we will MOOOST likely be closing Permanent Resident access soon. We've got a lot of interest so far which is incredible! But it's also a lot of extra content for us to implement haha, so it'd be good to close it before it gets too crazy. (Folks who are in it now will be reserved a spot obviously)

• Monday.com workflow!

Vixel and I have been experimenting with this website! It's been a good hub for tracking our tasks, on the macro and micro scale! But one of the COOLEST parts about it, is it has very shareable interfaces!

We're still gettin' a hang of using it, but I'd like to have our Todo's available for y'all to follow along with! We don't necessarily update it every day, but it's cool to track and see! Especially our archive of finished tasks :>

I'll make a proper post introducing this later!

Over the production of Act 1, we've been trying out new things here 'n there for the UI. Vixel ended up doing a very minimal mini-tutorial for the Plant Scene minigame - and it looked sleek as heck. That prompted the redesign of our Important Item Get Screen! (Complete with fancy satisfying sound effects!)

A lot of our UI feel/animation is mocked up by me in Adobe Flash (hence the still background). I just need to represent MAHBOI FLASH because it's so fuckin' strong, and I hear people trash-talk it all the time xD! It's a good-ass program!

Once it's mocked up, then Vixel takes the file and translates it into Unity's animator!

This also prompted some exploration for how we'll handle Small-Item-Get as well as other notifications, like New Gossip unlocks, and Critter Log Updates!

The game has several different kinds of update notifications, and a majority of these minor ones could be grouped up. But it's entirely possible the player would see multiple at the same time. So either:

A) - We have them divided all around the screen, making it hectic and difficult to know which to read .

or B) We have them all in the same spot, and create a queue system that will do them one at a time. Problem with this being if you unlock 3-4 things in a single conversation, each one will pop up, flash for 3-4 seconds then animate off screen. Meaning it could be 12-16 seconds of older notifications showing.

After some asking around Option C came up! That's to work with a single area that can show and emphasise different tasks. It'll work via the same queue system, just populate simultaneously! Clean, Clear, Concise! It'll likely require a bit more wiring up for Vixel though xD Sorry bro!

Heckin' game-dev man, lmao.

We wanna try to push out a build very soon. Just something for July since from now on we will be releasing the 1st-3rd of each month. BUT with this awkward transition period, that means nothing for this month >->! And that's not cool!

WOOHOO! We've got a VERY solid foundation on our resolution support! This was one of the last biggest things we've been wanting to have ironed out before going ahead with Act 1's official release!

It's important to have these larger support systems in place before our "legit debut!" So thank you all for being patient :>

- Pixel perfect resolution scaling and wide/ultrawide aspect support. (This means the artwork is no longer cut off at the edges on narrow monitors, the game works on wide monitors, and the game will have crisper looking pixels on most monitors!)

- Resizable game window when playing in windowed mode (toggle windowed mode from the Options menu)

- Squirrel sex scene dialogue! (when played through the game world, dialogue is hidden during Gallery scene playback)

- Lake and river ambient audio!

- Revised swim behavior (feels more natural now)

- Reworked interactions at the beginning of the gator crossing scene.

More polish and bugfixes. Highlights include:

- More readable text in fast travel dialogue.

- Can dashroll through doors and NOT through the back wall of the bunny stump doorway. <.<

- Can no longer see the top of Penny's takeoff plume when dashrolling up after fast travel.

- Fast travel bell closer to perch, camera zoom fx when calling Penny.

- Flashing glow on powerups to make them easier to spot.

- Player response options menu is more responsive. (Previously you had to wait a moment before changing/selecting options)

KNOWN BUGS:

- Rarely, can see bright gray or infinite-mirrors effect at screen edges with new pixel perfect scaling. Infinite mirrors goes away when the window is resized; still investigating the bright gray.

- Some music skips slightly when looping. (We'll be re-exporting those tracks)

- Inventory selection sound plays too loud when inspecting equipment cells.

--MOVING FORWARD--

Okay, so a few big things.

• Early Month Build Releases

Our monthly builds will just be delayed a day to be the first few days of the month, rather than the last. It's a very small change, but on certain releases (like this one) - we get AWFULLY CLOSE to the end of the month, and the start of a new billing cycle.

Releasing earlier in the month will be nicer to our friends in other countries that are many hours ahead of us!

It'll also ease a bit of stress on us if we're running a bit later than planned!

So moving forward, we will release builds on the 1st - 3rd of every month now.

We figured this month will be a good one to make this change, since Act 1 is PROOBABLY debuting in the next few weeks.

• Preparation for Act 1

We're HECKIN CLOSE. We've got a bit more polishing, and need a few more tutorial things in place, but it's very very close now.

Once Act 1 is out, Vixel will be spending a lot of time cleaning up spaghetti code, but we'll also be plugging away adding in new content finally! I've been making more assets in preparation to hit the ground running when the time comes. including new animations! (i'll post a sneak peek soon!)

• Debuting our new Music Guy!

As I mentioned before, we've got a new music guy, and I'd like to more properly introduce him to y'all! It'll be great to show you what he's been working on, but I think he wants to have a pseudonym haha. So once that's all figured out, we'll have proper welcomes! I'm very excited for you guys to hear what he's been cookin' up!

Things are lookin' up on my end! My roomie situation has finally cleared up, which was a huge stressor for me. I'm stoked to be able to get back to doing my own thing in peace~

Supports been ABSOLUTELY amazing for our game! Vixel and I have been super thrilled with all the interest lately! You guys are amazing! With the support we've been looking around for some additional help, particularly we've found a music guy :> More will be revealed a bit later on that, but I'm so excited, they're cookin' up some good shit!

Progress is steady! Bugs/polishes/ironing stuff out on Vixel's end. I've been tackling some Act 2 assets including a couple new locations and characters. (not to mention several new sex scenes). All in good time though! Plenty of work to do there!

OK! Unrelated to all that shiz, I GOT INSPIRED RECENTLY by a broadway called Hadestown. Ever heard of it? It's a retelling of Orpheus and Eurydices, paralleled with Hades and Persephone - all somewhat modernized and kinda cool. The music's fuckin' yucky-dope.

To those who know me know I have a HUGE boner for musicals. So a while back when I first found Hamilton, I did a lil animatic/storyboard test for one of the songs. I never posted it. But its kinda cool. I'll probably post them here since they're fun :>

Animated music videos have always been a kinda dream of mine. Like WAY BACK when I first started drawing, I always had these cool ideas for songs. Recently I've been tackling those sorts of things a bit more. It's great for random inspiration, and helps hone my storyboarding/animatic chops!

YO FOLKS! Here's this month's build :> This one's a bit less content-oriented, and more just a lot of prep for the release of Act 1!

Without further ado!

v0.099 Changelog:

- New input system! This one supports nearly every common gamepad on every OS. (Desktop builds only, though WebGL input support is partially improved too)

- Sound Effects for footsteps, dashroll and swim splashes. (Not fully implemented)

- Gossip greetings. Now the critters will say hi when you gossip with them!

- Idle dialogue so characters always have something to say! (This includes several new Fast Travel conversations for Penny)

- A bunch of minor bugfixes and quest improvements.

On my side, I've been doing a buncha random fixups here 'n there for Act 1, but mainly I've gone ahead and started assets on Act 2! I've included several in the images above. There's also a few more revamps on older systems/features.

I've also been revamping the title screen! It's not QUITE there yet, but I'm really digging this direction. It's much more readable and legitimate

Alas, in our digital age, more and more things are required to be taxed. It appears starting July 1st Patreon will be required to charge us sales tax on whoever we're supporting. This is based on YOUR location, not the creator's location. This is also based on what is offered in each tier, meaning there's a lot of gray areas.

For example, overpaying on a tier is considered a form of donation/general support, so it's not taxed. This means all of you in the collab tier will be being taxed on the 51$ that is on that tier, and nothing over that.

And certain things are taxed in some states, while others aren't taxed at all. So "streamed content" is taxable in a lot of areas now, but "early access" might not be, or "general support" might not be either. Or things like "private community access"

There's a lot of gray area, and I'm curious to see how much this will affect everyone. I've got about 100$ worth of folks I'm supporting each month, so in theory i'll only be paying maximum 8 bucks in sales tax. But with the amount of customizing each creator can do per tier, it could be less. We'll see!

Patreon has already released a ton of information on this for creators, but they will be emailing everyone in the next few days. You will find more information on all of this there.

I've already adjusted our tiers, and it's pretty neat to see how it works. Again, this won't be rolled out until July 1st. So you have plenty of time to look into it.

This'll mean a couple extra shekels, unfortunately, but it was really just a matter of time.

• Start menu - could navigate the start menu before it had fully appeared
• Start menu - holding X at launch to clear savegame caused game to softlock
• Red would sometimes stop walking when transitioning between scenes until the movement key was released/pressed
• If the savegame file was ever locked by an outside process, Autosave would blink forever and the game would softlock
• Narrator and Standard dialogue text background would flicker briefly when starting a new conversation that used the opposite background
• Could navigate the interaction ui with left/right bumpers while the interaction menu was invisible

Whew! Not gonna lie this month went by pretty damn fast Dx - But we were diligently plugging away. Things are SO HECKIN CLOSE to finished for Act 1! We really don't have much else to do save for all the spit and polish.

New systems that we do still need is stuff like Particle Systems, and Sound Effects (non sex ones... for now). We've got a lot of these assets in the works, just haven't hooked everything up just yet!

We actually had to create a new system for handling "mini game" systems :O! Add that to the list of things I don't consider when planning stuff bahaha, but the system is there now, so future ones should be quicker (famous last words xD)

There's lots of other functionality things that need to get done before Act 1 is "officially ready" - stuff like better controller support, consistent screen ratio support, figuring something out for persistent data and just "updating" rather than fresh installing every time. And I'm sure a million other things I'm not aware of. Not to mention OSX, Linux, and WebGL troubleshooting.

Games are dumb y'all lmao.

It all starts with a lil scribble like this!

The actual document has a few spoilers in terms of how the system works and what we have planned, so I don't wanna show the whole thing just yet. But I thought this was fun to share :>

First I doodled what I had planned - I also plan out the system and get a general idea of how Vixel might be setting it up programming-wise. I try to keep things simple, yet effective!

Then I finalize the assets up, like what's at the top! They're ready for Vixel to dissect and reassemble in Unity, and then he can rig it up to be an adjustable thing.

Boom bam! We've still got a few lil' effects to add for the sake of clarity/conveyance - but that's the gist of it!

March's Build!

This build features:

There's a few known bugs that range from some UI's not kicking in or glitching, ranging to not being able to see the squirrel scene if you decline (not 100% confirmed though) (So don't turn the poor lil guys down!)

I was at first a lil' nervous giving Rascal a visual presence since I wanted him to be a kinda "nameless protagonist" type of character. But after playing a few games in similar situations, and after seeing how hECKIN CUTE this is - I'm thinking we might lean a bit more into it. Might expand on the poses a bit depending on the types of interactions, but not too sure. Maybe as a polish thing down the road!

But for now, this is what stuff is lookin' like! I still need to finalize how the word bubbles will look and work, but once that's done we'll have a final design The word bubbles will be used in a few other situations as well, so that'll be nice.

Carrot Thoughts:

I mentioned in my previous post that things have been very difficult this month, and it remains so. My roomie situation doesn't seem to be catching a break and has just been getting worse. (Without delving too far into personal life, the cops and ambulance were at my house 2 nights ago woohooo)

I'm totally fine/safe. But I'm also losing a lot of my patience, and dealing with this shit has been very draining. All the Covid shiz doesn't make any of this stuff any smoother, so it's been a trip. Their options are running out, and I will be insisting things better straighten up or I'll have no choice but to kick them out.

I don't want to worry folks - to those who're new to me, of the 6 years I've been freelancing, this is the only debilitating level of "drama" I've had to deal with. I'm good with being very independent and making sure my workspace (house) - is a safe and reliable space. And though these are difficult times, I will do what i have to for my own sanity to keep doing what I need to do.

Vixel's also been having a rough time with all the pandemic and what not, so I'm not too sure what we'll have to deliver this month, but stuffs making progress in the background for sure. Slowly but surely.

SPEAKING OF ACT 2

The past week I've been typin' away at Starbucks during the nice weather! I've gotten about 24 pages of script done, probably about 2/3rds the way done with it. Still need to flesh out a side quest and the dialogue for the last chunk of the main chain quest. Then tons of extras/gossips 'n what not. But it's coming along smoothly :>

It’s a platformer/beat-em-up style smut game! Still early in development, but if you guys are familiar with the team’s work, they put a TON of care into production and polish! You can already see it in the animations they’ve got available. I’m SUPER excited to see where they are going to take everything!

My favorite character in particular is this lil’ fem-dom huntress! I’m not sure if she’s like, a kobold or something, but she’s heckin’ ADORABLE, smol, and I love the cape/hood combo for the extra flair! The animation’s she is in are fantastic, particularly the one where she eats out the lady-raptor character Genesis ;O!

Carrot Thoughts: SO this cross promo thing is something I've been ABSOLUTELY hoping to do ASAP! Networking/meeting new folks is like 25% of the fun of the art journey. And the shitty part about making a game, is you're so dang busy, you kinda forget to meet folks >->

In addition, I've noticed the current state of the Furry Fandom is quite separated. More recently we've all been struggling to find a place to call home, and it seems like Twitter has kinda taken that spot - despite it being an absolutely terrible "gallery" for artists.

All the more so, once we introduce Patreon to the picture, it's even further segmented the fandom! Don't get me wrong, I'm SO grateful for the opportunities Patreon has provided. But the furry fandom in particular has been in disarray, and this new platform (One that promotes the individual, and exclusivity) ends up furthering the isolation in the fandom. (Not patreon's fault, simply the timing with the fandom)

Maybe that's just me. But I have a ton of friends these days that are very hard to keep up with because having things as "patreon-exclusive" can make stuff a lil' weird. And patreoning each other (throwing the same 5$ back and forth) actually ends up costing us money! It's not a lot, so it's a decent work around, but needless to say, the social aspects of it all are weird xD

SO! Since we actually FIRST started this project, it's been a huge goal of mine to help bring down some of that exclusivity, and opening the door to other projects that my fellow furry homies are pursuing! When jasonafex reached out to me about doing this, I was immediately onboard, and I've got a few other friends to be working with very soon =)

I wanna see a community where we're all stoked for each other's passion projects and pushing each other further and further. I know we wanna make some really ground breaking shit - And it's SUPER difficult to do on our own. The road ahead is so much easier with friends around :>

OK finally let's talk about this picture I mocked up.

If you recognize it, YOU'VE PLAYED PERSONA 5! Congrats! That game FUCKS.

While I've been binge-ing it, the way their "response" design worked really stuck with me! We've got a very similar set of problems that we need to solve, that this particular UI satisfies like 95% of it. Obviously I won't be stealing this exact aesthetic, but it's awesome to see how this design solves a lot of our issues!

Our current response system has the choices on top of the screen. This "works" functionally. But doesn't exactly describe who's talking. It doesn't exactly direct where the player should be looking. AND the whole design/clarity of it is DEPENDENT on a buncha dumb effects like dropshadow/white text/AND multiply gradient layer.

The later is ESPECIALLY the biggest reason why I'm not 100% into our current design. That's literally the concept of "Polishing a Turd" - You can spiffy it up to work, but fundamentally, it's not a strong UI Design.

In addition, doing something like this highlights a bit more of Rascal, and we can get a lil fancy with it (like persona 5 has occasional lil accent animations) for important stuff!

By having Rascal appear this way, this also becomes are FAR more demanding and engaging UI Design. It's obvious where we look, and it's obvious what the choices are. Persona 5 particularly does a really stellar job with clarity, but by going this direction, we don't have to rely on those dumb effects like before.

I'm stoked to mess with this and figure out a unique design that accommodates these qualities :> Should have it in next month's build!

OK! Got some heckin' TASTY new updates for this build!

Most evident and off the top of my head:

• Plant Side quest and Sex Scene! (We do still have another surprise for this quest that isn't quite in the build yet.)
• Interact UI v3.0! Now interacting with the critters is a bit more intuitive! We've just set the foundations in, so it's not 100% hooked up with everything. Particularly, we had to remove the GOSSIP feature, as the gossip 2.0 isn't ready just yet.
• Dialogue UI v2.0! All portraits have been updated to now accommodate this new design. It's much more robust, allowing for individual tweaking of portraits, layering of assets (per portrait) - Triggered icon animations (We have a small taste with the current bounces) It's pretty dope! I still have a few adjustments to make with it, but the functionality is there.
• Bridge Quest now has proper counters/collecting of assets! We've gone ahead and hid the assets all around.
• Bunny handjob scene is back in - back where it was meant to be!
• Various polishes and fixes!
• New font! Smaller, more legible, and a bit more more modern than the previous! (Not all fonts have been updated)
• "New Tutorial" - Scarlett will run ya through it when ya start.
• A CONGRATS screen for when you've accomplished all the things you can in this build :)

And probably some other things I'm forgetting.

HEADS UP - The windows build feels pretty stable, but we haven't done any rigorous testing on Linux/Mac build. So like last time, those builds are play at your own risk. We will get to trouble shooting those once all of Act 1 is in and done.

Carrot Thoughts:

Personally, I've been a bit anxious with the releases as of late.

I was making promises earlier that were absolutely unrealistic. (I thought Act 1 could be done like, 5 months ago? HAH) Despite backtracking to revamp older systems (definitely for the better) - the amount of work that needed to be done was vastly underestimated.

Fortunately, you've all been amazing and haven't made a single complaint about delays - and for the most part, our financial support here on patreon hasn't taken any big hits (Which is HELLA, thank you <3)

BUT, my own expectations has been something I've been needing to learn how to manage better...

Up until now, I've been a solo content creator for the past 6 years. Everything was up to me, and if I needed to get something done, I could just go super hard with some energy drinks and do what I gotta do.

With this game, not only am I relying on Vixel, but we're also jumping headfirst in a vastly different medium, and a vastly different workflow. I've learned an absolute fuck ton over the past year, but this next lesson is gonna be a tough one. There will be parts in the production where I'm pretty powerless to help things move along, and it's just how it goes. To be 100% clear, Vixel has been kicking major ass. But it's my own lack of understanding and awareness of the process, as well as unrealistic expectations, that are causing my unease.

I tend to wanna just "past time" when there's nothing much I can do, so I'll jump into a game binge for a while and disappear off the internet haha. It's really not the best way to do stuff, but thanks to that, I did binge the shit out of Persona 5 and will probably be stealing a thing or two from that game to put into ours :>

The reality is, there's plenty of other things I can be doing. We have 4 WHOLE OTHER ACTS to prepare for obviously. Lots more in terms of sound designing, or music. Even looking out of the box for advertising or possible merchandising. Or really online presence at all. Not to mention the actual art I still owe people, or opening up for some commissions to prepare for taxes next month.

I need to be more OK with this entire process:

• Delays will absolutely happen.
• Promising deadlines is a HUGE liability.
• Expectations (for creators and audience) need to be managed realistically.
• Life will get in the way, for me and Vixel.
• Games are EVEN HARDER to make than I can possibly fathom. I shouldn't be surprised, or disappointed, when we're behind "schedule."
• All of these struggles are just part of the job, and that's A-OK.

Additionally, these all have positive counterparts to them.

• The delays happen because we want an even better product than we anticipated.
• Deadline promises lead to "crunch time" and liability, making us TRY to stick with a schedule.
• High expectations help pave the path to what it is we want to see. What will stand out, and what will be truly special.
• Life can deal us shitty cards, but we should also be living the cool cards when they present themselves.
• It's the difficult things that are worth doing. And we're constantly put to the test, learning, and improving all the more so by tackling such a huge project.
• If we can handle all the struggles, we'll be that much stronger afterward.

At the end of the day, these new obstacles are part of the ride. It's difficult, but it's what I wanted and it's such a solid step for my progress as an artist! Thank you all again for being a part of the journey =)

We've made a lot of progress over the past couple weeks! I apologize for promising a release mid-february, but it'd be REALLY dope to get this scene in this build. So we decided to just give it the additional 2 weeks to solidify a ton of other stuff, and adding additional content!

During the creation of this game, a lot of the way I've been going about "uncertain designs" (Like the UI) - is:

• Doing a bit of Thumbnailing
• Doing some research
• Making something "that works"
• then calling it "Good enough for now."

The good thing about this workflow is, it lets us not get stuck on any particular part for too long. It lets us move on and test the current design/system, and find flaws.

But it usually inevitably means we will need to revisit each part, and finely tune it as we go on. This particular focus was the Dialogue Box UI.

We had a couple issues with how our current one worked. I wrote a bunch of the notes on the first picture above! Give them a read if ya wanna see a bit more of what was holding us back, and what we wanted to design for!

SO! Now that I know the problems with the current design, I can do some research on other games, and see how THEY solved THEIR problems :> (sometimes they didn't! And sometimes there wasn't a problem at all!)

I look up whatever current games I'm playing, and just see what they're doing.

This process works for literally learning anything. Study the shortcomings of your own. Analyze the works of others, and see what they're doing right/wrong.

After a while, you'll either notice popular design trends, or get a better idea what's going to work for your particular needs. For us, this answered a lot of questions. And I had a pretty good idea of what to try.

So now it's back to thumbnailing. These tests were in a vacuum with NO other game art, just to see if they'd work on their own. Trying different boxes, but this time, accommodating a special place for both Art, AND name plates. (necessary design features going forward)

I ended up really digging how Hades does their dialogue boxes and went with that. But I definitely nabbed from the other games for lil' extra aesthetic and design choices.

Having this setup lets that "dialogue box" be modular. So it's a solid place for any other sort of UIs we may need in the future! In particular, we have a "Gossip" mechanic - which is basically the lore feature. It's a way to learn more about every critter, unlock extra info in the critter log, and occasionally, unlock extra items/dialogues/sex scenes :O!

While testing the visuals all together, one of the questions was: Should we try Drawn Art mixed with the pixel aesthetic?

If you look closely in our notes, there was many reasons to consider going non-pixelized, drawn/HD elements in the Dialogue UI. Particularly:

• resizing isn't a bitch for the portraits
• it's also not a bitch for the fonts.
• It can help differentiate the game visuals from the dialogue visuals. This contrast can give more of a "new age/indie" flare - I think it makes them a bit more memorable. Compare Celeste to Moonlighter above.

There were many reasons to consider going drawn, but there were issues as well.

• Creating a new "visual language of designs" in the game. (usually this means you should have other drawn elements somewhere)
• This could potentially create competition for the animated sex scenes. (Why aren't they drawn?)
• Though it is a more unique thing, it does kinda remove one of the main reasons why I wanted to stick with pixels (keep characters SLIGHTLY ambiguous in design, so the viewer can imagine and fill in the blanks (a huge strength of sprite/pixel based games))
• Finally, drawing allows for more complex techniques, so it kinda takes longer to make the assets.

At the end of the day, the nail in the coffin was the potential "value/economy" disrupt for the visuals. We didn't wanna devalue the sex scenes by keeping them animated yes, but pixelized. Essentially "Low res drawings" - why does the dialogue get high res drawings, and the sex gets low res drawing? It would've been a valid critique. AND I CERTAINLY DIDNT/DONT wanna animate things over again, nor animate them traditionally haha. Maybe next game ;b.

So a lot of time went into this whole journey, about 1-2 weeks. It's part of what set us back (and I guess my impromptu grandpa trip, and vixel's computer dying lol).

But these sorts of explorations are necessary for a game's growth and solidity! Definitely learned a lot from all this. What I've posted isn't even including the new Interaction System v3.0 xD.

The way we interact with critters has been an everchanging system - partly because not a lot of games exist that have what we need. Typically dialogue is handled linearly, and based on time or certain triggers, and the level of complexity there can be huge, but we also needed a system that supported not only linear, but non-linear conversations. Once we made the system, we needed to revamp the actual controls since our 2.0 system "worked" but wasn't visually intuitive yet.

WHEW~!

So now here we are. Near the end of the month, got a few more very very solid revamps, but still gotta plug them in.

Vixels buried under a mountain of things to fix and polish still, and now I threw all this on top of him lmao. We're gonna >try< to get this all in for this month's release, but if not, I think we'll do another release a week or two into February.

I really wanna get these new systems in so we can have more testing time with it. I'm PRETTY CONFIDENT, the UI Dialogue revamp, AND the interaction UI revamp are gonna be the final ones in the actual completed game. So I'm excited to see them in action as soon as possible!

Hey guys! I meant to drop this post BEFORE I left on my trip, but some miscommunication had me running out the door unexpectedly haha~

My grandfather's pretty sick with cancer, and he's also pretty old, so we needed to schedule some quality family time. My grandpa is also an artist, though more in the fine-arts realm. He's CRAZY dedicated to his craft, and from what I keep hearing, we're awfully similar. He's me in 50 years, but instead of talking about spiritual wholeness of the universe, I'll be talking about cute-ass furry butts - and how it bonds us all. ;)

Anyways, one particular moment we had was at his studio. He was doing quick portraits of the family, and I decided to draw a portrait back! It was really something special for him. I caught him up on some of my endeavors and goals/dreams with art, and he was very happy to see I'm on a solid path, and that I know who I am as an artist.

All in all, I was stressing about this trip for a multitude of reasons, but it was definitely worth it, and definitely no regrets now when the time comes for his passing.

I don't typically share stuff like this, but figured the drawing needed a bit of an explanation haha :>

ANYWAYS BACK TO GAME STUFF!

This month has been going flippin' FAST! Game-wise we've been making some massive progress on some UI updates/upgrades (I'll post a full post regarding this) - and been doing the clean ups and proper implementation of all the stuff in last month's build~

In addition, I've been fleshing out newer portraits, and updating older ones. We're revamping the inventory system (just slightly), and doing a ton of additional scouting for sound effects 'n what not.

It definitely doesn't look like we're gonna have everything I wanted in the next 10 days, But I think we'll be at a much more comfortable spot to have everyone able to play with this one haha. I THINK we're still on track for a polished release next month, but that may push back into a week or two early March. We spent a week or two more on some "building outward" that was kinda unexpected, but necessary, so more pushing back etc Dx.

All in all though we've kept up a great pace. Vixel's computer actually burned out so he was out for a good bit repairing it, and now I've been out with the family stuff. But life happens, so we just gotta roll with it!

Lastly, I wanted to extent a big welcome to all the new patrons! I'm still super grateful and very thrilled we broke 500 supporters! It's such an important mile stone it's ridiculous, and I'm sure we're only gonna grow much more with all the eventual smut I'll be advertising with bahaha.

HERE IT IS~! OH MAN Is it rough lmao.

Again, totally suggest not checking this one out since there's a lot more written content that would be best experienced once it's all actually finished/polished!

• We have omitted the intro cut scene - since we figured it'll be best impact once it's polished.
• Other than that, "act 1" (well the dialogue for the larger chain quest) - is in. We don't have trackers, or a lot of lil' things in place - so it's a mess haha. But as promised, there is the build :>
• Aside from the very unfinished Act 1, we have also included the Beaver Workshop, and The Ruins (to the left of the lake), as accessible areas.
• We've also added the swimming transition, but it's a bit clunky atm. We need to polish up the hitboxes of the shore lines.
• Dialogue isn't correctly spaced out for the boxes, resulting in dialogue overextending the boxes everywhere. Pay no mind!
• We've temporarily removed access to the mountains/forest/field. Some of which aren't accessible in Act 1.
• There's also quite a few "left overs" from the demo build. Like some signage.

Yesterday and this week, I'll be focusing on sound design/sound spotting! I've already got a great collection of samples, and we've added a few things here 'n there (A bell jingle when summoning Penny (fast travel bird)).

Then I still gotta finish the plant animation and a few things here 'n there, but mainly a lot of polishing/adjusting now that I can see things in action!

Around this time last year was the very inception of The Forest of Love. I'm ecstatic to see how dang far we've taken this in the year, but I'm ESPECIALLY excited to show what we've got in store for next year!

It's been a ton of "building outward" over the past several months, but finally we're really able to start "building depth" now that the systems are all generally in place.

As promised, we will have a SUPER SILLY ROUGH Act 1 out for you guys this month. (tonight?) Definitely going to be full of bugs, and super not-presentation ready - so tbh, I'd suggest skipping this one! But since we promised monthly releases, this one will happen too :>

We basically placed all the pieces in the system, and now we gotta polish up all the pieces 'n what not. There's so much to do it's ridiculous xD!

OPTIMISTICALLY. We'd like to have Act 1 Polished, and ready to distribute for January. It's probably not gonna be completely finished, but that'd be super cool. What instead we might do, is have it "PRETTY DANG FINISHED" and have you guys help bug test everything. Then have a SUPER polished version for February. That will be uploaded on Itch.io and everything.

Act 1 is a very huge milestone for us. The demo was the testing of our general systems - Act 1 is the finalizing of those systems, and also the ACTUAL Campaign of the game. Once Act 1 is finished, we will begin advertising to further spread the word and help gather support! So we wanna make sure it's as perfect as it can be. (within reason of course)

• Dodge Roll System! Press Shift, (or X on a controller) to do a roll! Carefully time the press, and you can chain them! This will help you move around faster. It may also come in handy for other things in the future... (this is ability is not unlocked at the beginning of the game, so this is a spoiler)
• Swimming system! Hop in the water, and see Red's shiny new Swim Floaties! (Also not unlocked at the beginning of the game, so spoiler) Press X to get a boost of speed occasionally!
• Fast Travel System! Find a perch and talk to Penny, she will take you wherever you want to go!

(All of these features are about 80~% completed! We still have some polish, effects, and transitions to add. But the basic functionality is there!)

What's the plan for this month:

Man, I'd love to say "ACT 1!" but with the holidays around, things are way more hectic and unpredictable. We are gonna do our best to keep pumping out content. We may have a majority of the assets for act 1 IN by the end of this month, but I really doubt it will be polished and totally ready.

What I'd like to do, is if we can get all that stuff to the point where it's playable, despite things breaking or w/e - then that'll be great for this month. Then next month we can worry about polishing and prepare for our actual big hyped up Act 1 release later in January.

I've got an animation to finish, a sex scene to start, a couple locations to finish up, then random polish here and there. I'd also like to get some sound effects going for several elements in the game, visual effects and particle effects (for things like swimming ripples, snow foot prints etc) Mainly a lot of little things here and there. Probably some more writing and what not.

Last month was a bit of a doozy for me. Between a bit of an art slump, and then helping out with a friend's family-emergency (this is still on going) - not to mention the holidays, lots of last month wasn't as productive as I'd have liked. It's been a very difficult month, and I've been quite frustrated from it all. But sometimes life throws us curve balls.

Btw folks, I'm kinda in the middle of playing support for a friend the past week and coming weeks. A good friend's mother had a stroke and it's pretty serious. Looks like this months coming to an end, and HECK are we not as far as we were hoping... We will be cramming in some new assets for this month's release later today/tomorrow - but it's not as much as we hoped!

We wanted to get the intro cinematic on this build, but that's not gonna happen yet. Instead look forward to:

WHEWWWW It's been a busy first half of the month! I've created quite a few necessary assets, a couple smaller locations, some animations (like above!) and started on a new sex scene animation! Things are lookin' dope!

Aside from the visual art, I've been working on new music, and nailing out TONS of writing for Act 1. We're at 34 pages of script so far >-> I'm guess only about 5-10 left? Maybe a little more...

Vixels been going super ham cleaning and polishing old systems, and crafting new ones for act 1! Stuff regarding Cut Scenes, Screen directions, we'll be messing with in-unity animation for some small interactions, and all kinds of stuff!

We're making tremendous progress, BUT HECK, I think we MIIIIGHt have too much content to fit in for Act 1's release this month. So instead, we plan on having a nice lil' intro and the beginning of Act 1 hopefully in this month. It's probably coolest to just see all of act 1 when it's ready - but, the monthly build is less about the polish/experience, and more about the journey/seeing progress.

Behind the scenes, we've been getting things ready for Act 1 - I've been doing a lot of writing and music exploration! Change log:

- Critter log UI (shortcut key O) + example character bios with Kinks and Notes that unlock as you play the quests (17 total, can you find them all?). Will flesh this out more in later builds!

ATTENTION MAC/LINUX USERS

There are A LOT of bugs that need fixing in the Mac and Linux versions. We will be able to properly bug test and fix everything up when we've got a majority of the stuff in order for Act 1. Until then, if you're on Mac or Linux - use the WebGL build! You should be able to open it with a browser and it should work.

Sorry for the inconvenience! We will have the versions playable for Act 1 and most likely onward. Since after Act 1 there won't be really any new systems, and mainly just adding content.

Update on Progress!

This is actually a scene from the intro cinematic!

I was hoping to have a majority, or ALL of Act 1 done by the end of this month - but a couple things turned up for both Vixel and I which really threw us off in terms of production. We're still making great progress, but there's no way we'll have Act 1 done by this month's release. But I've been plucking away at the writing, and new music - He has created the working system for the quest viewer/critter log - and things are lookin' good!

I also think we'll be revamping the Lore dialogue option (the 3rd one) a bit. I think the new system will definitely make a lot more sense and feel more natural to play. Though there's some slight new UI to figure out for that. So a bit more to do.

Anywho. that's it!

• Currently if you save in the lake, and load the game, it'll play the Title Screen music instead of what's set for the lake.
  
• When transitioning locations, if you're holding 2 directions, once the loading is finished, you don't continue moving as expected.

Carrot Month

One year (and a few weeks) was the start of Carrot Month. And it’s thanks to that month that I was sent on the path of game design and exploring a bunch of other artistic interests!

· Because of that month I’ve got a little thriving Discord Community set up for my patreons.

· Because of that month I’ve pursued youtube content.

· Because of that month I’ve made a small game, which has paved the way for my current endeavor, The Forest of Love.

· Because of that month, I’ve dived into merchandising and figured out the ins and outs of that process.

AND PROBABLY MORE STUFF that I’m forgetting! But I’m SUPER happy with all the content and progress I’ve made over this last year. I’m super grateful for the opportunity provided by all of you, and I’m very glad I was introspective enough to realize that I needed to make a leap.

THOUGH we’re a couple weeks into August, I’d like to make the month of august a little annual sorta “Celebration”! A month to encourage and give a reason to just GO FOR IT. Whatever it is you’ve been putting off, it’s time to buckle down and just hop to it!

I’ll deem the celebration, Carrot Month! A month dedicated to your personal growth and finally pursuing something you’ve been meaning to.

I’m doing 2 things for Carrot Month this month.

1) Working on anatomical muscle group studies! Particularly the arms/legs/back muscle groupings! I’ve put this off for years, and it’s finally time I bite the bullet and give muscles the proper study they deserve.

2) I’m going to finally make a huge push to pay off one of my big student loans. By the end of the year I’d like to pay off the total of $5,831.76. Of course I still have other loans, but having this off my plate would be nice. Over the past several years, I’ve pecked it down from 13k, so this smaller number feels much more achievable to kill off.

I’ve already been pursuing the 1st one, but for the 2nd – I’m going to start with another Sketchfolio Release! This one’s a BIT different, in that, it’s not super focused on unfinished sketches, but instead, finished work I have yet to post. BUT, since I don’t plan on becoming a paywall (and also since I’ve been a shit-ass with posting recently) – I will be also releasing A FLOOD today of smut. Expect around 10-15 images. Sorry not sorry.

Twitter Plug

Perks of doing the poll is it rewards everyone who pledges, rather than just those who have the time to attend the stream.

Cons are it's a lil less personal because it's not happening in real time on a close nit lil' stream! Another con is that sometimes the concept process in real time is good for sparking up ideas of what to draw...

Hard to say! I can do a bit of both, do the poll, then do a private stream for it, orrr I could stick with these other two methods. I'll most likely switch it up, but I'm curious what ya guys think!

I've been sick with a bit of the common cold stuff from the con - but it's been letting me guiltlessly binge the shit out of Fire Emblem! THAT GAME IS DOPE Y'ALL! If any of you were on the fence of picking up that game, I super recommend it.

ALSO! Introducing a few more things :>

- Deep Woods rooms, shadows layer and parallaxing! (Walk off the map right past the bear to access the Deep Woods)

- New Inventory/CritterLog/QuestLog UI! Press U, I, or O to open it.

- Controls and Gallery tutorials available from the start menu, new menu options to replay them. Dialogue and controls tutorials shown in Central Forest on first playthrough after talking to the bunny.

- This build still has any audio and controller sensitivity bugs reported from prior builds!

- Anyone playing on ultrawide resolutions can see outside the boundaries of the map <.< this has actually been a bug since the original demo. Will fix in August.

- WebGL users should be very careful using Q and Ctrl (interact UI) as this will close their whole browser. ;.; I recommend web GL users play with a gamepad until we can give them new keys!!

- WebGL no longer loads in all browsers (I think it's due to the increase in required memory, still troubleshooting though...)

NEWEST BUILD UP AND RUNNING! No new story content - But the Darkwoods is ALMOST fully explorable! Partly because I haven't animated water, or the characters - but also partly for spoiler reasons :>

ALSO got the visuals in for the CRITTER LOG and QUEST LOG! Open your inventory and check them out! We decided to add these mechanics in to promote our core game design! I can do a nerd talk on that sometime later, maybe a youtube video or something.

Anywho that's it for now! Next months should have a couple more areas for you guys to explore! Maybe some more characters too.

SOON, Production on ACT 1 will be under way. If not next month, the month after that for sure! I'm tackling the biggest assets first before we go into actual content.

DANG, so I just realized I forgot my Patreon sketch stream last month, and this month we’re running out of days (specifically weekends) for me to host it :O. SO instead, we’re gonna do things a little differently because I don’t want this to go another month.

This time we’ll just do it via polls - here is how it will work.

Step 1 - Request a character. Each person can request one. R34 only. Any character is fine. Even if I’ve drawn it before.

Step 2 - I will choose characters and put it to a poll in a couple days.

BIGGEST BUG is, it will remember your progress COMPLETELY until you restart the game! Going back to the menu, or beating the game will not change that xD! We're messing with some persistence stuff, and that's just kinda where it landed today. :>

Vixel wanted to share with ya guys this write up he did of the revamping of our old dialogue system!

One of the things I really wanted for this game to have, was a dynamic method of conversing with the critters. I wanted the player to be able to address different "chains" and get access to different dialogues based on context. BUT I wanted to avoid the traditional JRPG methods of having a big ole box of selectable choices (though we still have that for simultaneous quest options hahaaaa)

Vixel took a few stabs at coming up with a system to satisfy our needs! What a legend <3 This is his write up on our previous vs the new system!

This handles our programming side, and the previous post shows a bit of how we're handling it on the game-play side :D!

It's super important we tackle how the game feels and runs its dialogue as its a core mechanic and story telling component!

After last month's release, we got a lot of awesome feedback from ya guys! We knew what we wanted to achieve with our dialogue system, but it was apparent it was falling flat in a few ways. After seeing how people have played the game, and hearing about everyone's experiences, we planned on a revamped method of interaction!

One of the other things we realized, was that we had a system that works very well with a bit of explanation. So we decided to include a few new Tutorial splash pages.

Now, all of this isn't ready JUST yet, but the bulk of the new system IS working. (we have to write some new dialogue for a few things, but for now it's blank.) BUT we are going to give you guys (just you guys, just patreon peeps) a WIP build in several hours.

It would be super awesome to hear your guys feedback on the new system and how it feels/helps you understand how to better communicate with the critters!

Content-wise, nothing is new or different.

EXCEPT - we did wire up a "portal" to and from the area to the East, The Deep Woods. This is the area the Bear is guarding! If you'd like to see what it looks like, in full 100% NOT READY state, it'll be there! Just find the white block and walk into it lmao.

This month we're aiming to get a couple things in place - one being these new locations! (probably not the bottom one).

This location has a few new systems that we'll be introducing with multi-layer camera stuff and some extra over lapping effects.

Got some other cool stuff planned too! But I'll chat more about it once we're 100% sure on having it for this month! Spoiler alert, it's UI/character interaction stuff :>

Check it out! I was doing a bit of breakdown/analysis of an app game I've been playing a lot recently. I need more knowledge in terms of UI and UX Design, so I've been keeping my eyes peeled and doing small analysis like this!

It's interesting to see how a lot of these decisions are made not only for creative reasons, but to fit the form of the game (it's on a phone). Really cool shit.

To give you an idea, this is the kind of study/analysis stuff I'd do for anything I'm unfamiliar with. Anatomy, Composition, Color, Music, Story telling, Animation, Game design, whatever!

Hey it's Vixel!! I posted some new Forest of Love gifs recently in Discord, and wanted to share them on here too!!

During April, we finished up the vertical slice user interface and made a ton of careful tune-ups to improve the clarity, flow and feel of the demo's story and gameplay. Some of our work's been streamed on Picarto, and some has happened offline behind-the-scenes!

The demo build is now alllllmost ready to share! Just taking care of a few last-minute todos. Will keep yall posted. ^.^

Vixel here!! :) I made this GIF while exploring layer effects for tree shadows, lightning bug glow, and darkness for when the player character carries a light source into a cave or the deeper woods.

If you look closely when the character walks into the tree shadows, his own shadow disappears and the tree shadows darken his sprite! Still fleshing this out, but it's a fun start. ^.^

The game is officially announced y'all <3~! This is what I've been working on for the past lil bit, and this is what I'll be focusing on FULL TIME as an artist! This is the first Official Project of my Patreon - and with it, I'd like to welcome my new partner Vixel! (same name on IB and FA). He'll be handling all the programming for this game <3!

SO ABOUT THE GAME!

This is an ADULT game! There'll be about 20 animated smut scenes (in a similar fashion to that bunny/horse game I made, but in color).

Aside from that, a buncha charming critters, lots of quests, a lovely little world to explore, and some fun thematic lore to tie it all together! This is The Forest of Love!

Now that this things officially launched, I can continue the sorta post-spamming I was doing during Carrot Month! I wanna share the process with y'all, and I'd like to make a couple video talks about game design choices we went with, and the fabrication process we used. But that's all in good time, there's plenty to do here first!

Regarding a Timeline, we aren't super sure how long this will take. We've been making some break-neck progress so far, but the game is PRETTY BIG for a first project, and a small team. It's concise, it's as big as it needs to be - it's not MASSIVE or unmanageable, but it's big.

My goal is to have this done by the end of the year for sure. I think we're on a good track to finish it much sooner than that. But we'll see how things go =)

So I've gone ahead and started my new patreon transition! As of now, I've changed up all of the tiers and available rewards. I want to introduce a few new mechanics that I'm introducing.

It's been difficult, but I think these changes won't impact too much regarding my online presence, reward you guys all much much more, provide more perks and incentives for higher pledges, commit me to a more proactive and consistent posting, let me pursue my projects/larger interests, AND involve all of you more. There are some "nerfs" that are being applied to the general public, but I figure it makes the most sense to be "buffing" those who're making this all possible!

My art ideals remain the same - I still aim to inspire and create new cool shit, and for my art to be seen, so everything I make will still be posted for free.

Here are all of the changes:

• Patreon only Commission Slots (All Tiers) - I will RARELY take commissions. Only as a necessity really. That being said, when I do need to open, it makes the most sense to reward you guys <3. So a majority of my slots will be available for Patreons first!

This was a struggle of a decision. Since it kinda seems lame to "spoil" you guys, but then I think, you guys are the reason I can pursue what I'm trying to pursue, so why the fuck wouldn't I "spoil" you guys. xD

That said, I will still have some opportunities for FA/IB, or of course the occasional convention. Or those rando too-good-to-pass-up-ideas xD

• Illustrations will be down-rez'd for FA/IB uploads. - Not by a lot, you'll still get 1080p versions basically. In my opinion, this isn't even really a big deal, my images aren't meant to be viewed at 4k. The individual pixel doesn't matter, so this "nerf" doesn't have any practical down sides. But, for collectors sake, I'll put that on Patreon. (5$ tier)

Probably the largest perk for patreon in this regard, is I'll be posting them on patreon MUCH sooner since it's a ton easier to post here. Titles/presentation may differ from Patreon to the FA/IB post.

• Games/Comic/Project Content will be released on Patreon first. (5$) The delay kinda depends on the project. For example, my first game will have "checkpoints" where the build will be more significant and solid. So I'll be releasing the full basic beta for free, probably a half way point for free, and the final for free. But this game will probably take a year or so to actually finish everything. So patreons will get access to monthly releases.

• Monthly Patreon-Sketch Streams have been revamped to Crowd-Sourced (10$). Personally, I was never a fan of the RNG based system that it was, and it often caused a bit of alienation, stigma, and general frustration through the system.

Instead, I wanted this to be more of a synergistic, group-sourced creation process. So I will be shifting how these work dramatically. No RNG. We will talk together and spitball some ideas! There's a LOT of room to play with here since I can come in with a theme "Halloween!" or "Cats!" or "Pokemon!" - and people can chime in as they please. This can also allow for more complex pictures, and exploration of interesting topics.

OCs WILL NOT be allowed. Mine are fair game. But I'd think R34 or generic characters will be most enjoyable for everyone.

There will be no time limit, this will be a fun and casual day~!

• The Daily Carrot (25$) - This one's going to be tricky for me. But basically, this is the full Carrot experience. I will be posting WHATEVER I did that day. Finished work. scribbles, sketches. wip. whatever. This idea (Stolen from @Crittermatic) is meant to get my ass into gear and be less attached to stuff. I won't wait for things to be "ready" here - I won't wait to stagger posts- no nothing. I will dump anything I do in a given day.

That being said, some days, I don't draw. This'll be a TON more content, and I haven't figured out what method I will deliver stuff. Either Discord through a separate channel, or here. Discord might be best...

• Crowd-Sourced Learning (50$) - This is a VERY strange and interesting concept. I've always wanted to pursue some individual-based learning for you guys, and I think this is the way I wanna go about it.

I wanna introduce a classroom setting with those who're interested. I want it to be an open dialogue about art and our progress. I'll do a draw-over video/mini lesson every month for one of your pieces, or just in general for a concept. The idea isn't for me to redline a piece to show you how I'd do it, but to aim at the fundamentals that will help you improve in a certain area.

The reason I want this to be a group-based thing, is so you can all benefit from eachother's learning. The feedback will be geared toward each individual artist, but that means different artists with different perspectives and struggles. Learning from other people's successes/mistakes is a REALLY solid way of improving! You can also chime in and give feedback yourself!

The idea is to be a really open and encouraging environment to get yourself used to the mindset of distancing yourself with your art, and really getting ready to improve and grow.

Content from here will also inspire and lead to public tutorials and talk-through videos!

Totally WIP. No idea how this'll go down haha.

• And finally. The Collaborator tier (51$+) - This for you crazy generous people who want to support me even despite me closing my commission bank options. You all will be getting a very special mention in whatever project since you're a LARGE portion of my patreon.

In addition, I will work with you to get you involved in whatever project some how, based on your support! For my current game, I'm doing small chibi animation assets. So after several months of saving up, you can have your own included in the game! You can also pledge higher than the minimum, or just save up for months and months - depending on how much you save up, we can work something out <3!

This is very similar to the commission bank, but instead of a commission, it'll be an asset toward whatever project I'm doing. This way all the money I make goes toward these projects and games :3

I think that's everything. It's A LOT of changes - but I'm heavily revamping my system, so it's all super necessary. I do believe this new system has the best balance of incentives, "business tactics", fairness, my own artistic ideals, and "manageability" - I think it's going to be great for me as an artist too!

OK ANYWHO. HECK, that was crazy - but a good learning experience for sure. Super fucking fun, super WEIRD - and the "troubleshooting" is FUNKY. I ran into some issues with just how the program actually works/compiles, and at that point I had to just do work around instead of like... fixing it. I suppose I should expect that using something like a Visual Novel Builder. This is Tyrano Builder btw. REALLY suggest it.

Whattya'll think? It's a lil rough around the edges, but I'm really pleased with how it came out =) I THINK it even works on android? It DOES NOT work on my apple products at all.

Also, to anyone who's having issues running it (since I was having issues, but people in my discord seem to not?) - let me know! There's really not much I can do, but it'll be good to know what you're running it on and what is breaking. - I've also provided the .exe on itch.io for free download!

WHEW. Last week went by in a freakin' BLUR. Between yardwork, prior engagements, and other random busy-ness - I still managed to squeeze in learning/BASICALLY FINISHING my first lil "game" - and managed to adjust the bleed, scope out some vendors, and set up a 50 count order, and a sample order from another company :>!

ON ONE HAND. i'm super sad that I'm down to the LAST week, and still have a couple prior engagements ;o;!

On the other hand, i have gotten a lot done, and I can't beat myself up too much.

I definitely plan on finishing strong though. I have plans for a lot of tomorrow, but other than that, I'll be going ham! I've got a few more tweaks for my "game" - but it's BASIICAALLY up and running.

I tried hosting it myself via Amazon Web Services, but I think I might end up going with Itch.io since it's quite a bit less work - and I can write a description section... The files actually already up in a draft and it totally works :3 - Just got some small tweaks, and reuploading, then I'll be good to go!

MAN. I gotta say, there's quite a few things that have been interrupting Carrot Month and it's actually kinda getting a lil frustrating xD! Apparently everyone's in town in August, and apparently my front/back yard loves to grow rampantly this time of year - not to mention random baby showers (YEP 2) - and all the finalizing of helping my roomies move out earlier this month, and cleaning the place up. NOT TO MENTION Monster Hunter is pRITTY GRATE, gotta restrain though, as I already have enough other stuff taking my time!

I'm still getting a lot done, and most recently, aside from finishing up the Bun Daki (YEH THAT SHITS DONE BOI. I'll look into getting some price estimates from some chinese company in a bit) - I've also hopped into Tyrano Builder! This application is PERFECT for all my needs so far.

It's a LIL rough around the edges, but it has all the functionality I need, and it's lookin' REALLL FINE, lemme tell ya >w<~! I'm super DUPER fuckin' excited to see all the lil narratives I can explore, and how much impact a bit of dialogue can give!

BUT AHH the month is already basically 2/3rds over!! SUPER DUPER SAD.

I'm not gonna lie, I've felt so many of those good passions and feelings that I felt before. There's just SO DANG MUCH that I wanna keep exploring and learning and trying - and I am 100% aiming to be pursuing my own projects in the very near future. I have a bit on my to-do list when the month is over, and I will complete all current commissioners saving-up - but after that, I'm REALLY gonna try to limit commissions at least severely - if not, entirely. I've been toying with the idea for a while! I really feel like I should be doing my best to be much more interactive with y'all~! It'd be a quick and easy way to stay in touch, and I could also offer some venues regarding art-help or ideas or whatever as added tier incentives!

Regarding the workflow video/audio about half of it is cleaned up! I MAAAY or may not "clean up" the part about my workflows, or I might leave it kinda raw how it is - we'll see! But I'm running out of steam on it and it's "basically" done - I'll probably wrap it up soon and call it good on that mini project! I'll decide more later tonight :3

YO CHECK IT OUT. From the initial recording, 3:22 - I've paired this baby down by 42 seconds! PRITTY GEWD! I've also cleaned up the audio and added a bit of EQ and I think it sounds pretty toasty |3

So far each recording spliced together is about 50 minutes worth of content, but A LOT of this is me babbling, or rambling, or UM ER LIKE, lmfao. If I can get it down to 30, that'd be DOPE. but we'll see... I feel like some of the rambling can be good, but I also don't want to detract from the point of this.

The part about my workflow has a BIT of me actually working the tools and stuff, rather than just glossing through them. It's good for y'all interested in learning how I use certain things, but it's kinda a distraction when it comes to the over all message of the video.

That being said, despite the distraction, the formatting is pretty solid, so if people make it all the way through the message will still be imparted x)! We'll see how it goes!

Here I was testing out some of the theories and concepts I found above. This is the potential design for the NSFW acrylic standup!

It was super neat figuring out how to actually make it work being reversible in the same silhouette :O! Turns out, sketching a rough of one, then flipping it, then ADJUSTING both images simultaneously is the way to go :> WHO'DA THUNK

FIRST OFF - I've been cleaning the shit out of my desktop. Fuck man, long over due, holy crap.

SECONDLY - I've been writing a script and voicing over some content for a video talk through! I wanna talk about my art-process, and workflows in general. This will basically be like "getting the PSD" but EVEN MORE! Seeing an artists raw file shows all the layers which is cool, but you don't quite know what they're THINKING when making the piece. So this is my attempt at really illuminating that stuff. It's also a test on how I should go about my scripts, and editing to put the whole dang thing together.

THIRD - I want to design Acrylic Stand-ups! I've seen a few of these sold as merch and I feel like there's some srs untapped potential! So I'll be going through the conceptual process of designing a piece specifically for this "medium" - AND ITS PROLLY gonna be my bun and some raunchy stuff ;> But maybe I'll have a few other designs as well. I wrote a lot of stuff out on "paper" on the flight home from AC, so it'll be cool to show that sorta thing!

This is just the stuff I've been up to today. I've got a list of my endeavors on my computer, and a simplifed one in my journals on FA/IB! But i'll be documenting stuff HOPEFULLY DAILY here.

Also considering ditching text, and trying some sorta audio diary format.

OK onto something new and fresh!

SO I've been heavily considering severely limiting, or straight up ditching my patreon commissions. Don't get me wrong, absolutely love doing them, it's super fuckin' fun, and y'all have awesome ideas - but the lack of progress I've been making on my own projects is disappointing.

It's quite apparent that if I want to be more successful, it's in doing fresher newer things, and making bigger plays! (And by success I do mean financially, but more so artistically)

So here's the plan! One of these months very soon (August?) I'm going to NOT do a single paid piece. Instead, I'll be diving into a lot of the smaller things/ideas I've been wanting to do, in addition with getting more progress on my game.

I'd also like to put together some fun multi-streams with artists where we focus on drawing completely differently. Different designs, different workflows. etc.

I have a few narratives with some interesting characters that'd be fun to doodle out (and probably put together with Renpy!)

And of course, I need to be making more progress on my game!

Most of all - I'd like Carrot Month to be VERY open. I wanna try to document it with blog posts and uploads VERY VERY often.(Daily?)

This would be a super fresh change of pace for me, and I think I'm pretty long over-due. I'd love to do this sooner, but AC is coming up, and I'm already a bit behind on things since BLFC. So realistically, August seems like the best month for this.

Of course I'll be doing my best to get some time in on some of these projects before then, but I really think my mindset is gonna be completely different when I have *no other responsibilities*!

So I missed last month's sketch stream thing D:

I actually got a bit of tendonitis flaring up again, so I had to take quite a few unwanted days off =( BUT FEAR NOT. Definitely nothing like what i had a couple years back xD! I've been able to keep this one in check pretty easily and get back to drawing in just a couple days of rest =)

I am still taking it easy - so don't worry about me! But that means i missed last month's sketch stream :O

SO, I'll be last months THIS weekend. I'll post the info on the last upload.

I don't think people use this, and I don't really wanna keep up with it. If you do, let me know! But Picarto stores the last like, 12 streams. So you can already kinda watch stuff if you missed things.

ALSO let's choose a date for the next stream thing. Let's go with This Sunday, the 7th at 3pm MST. It'll be a lot shorter than usual, I'm only doing 5 sketches!
