Pleasant Valley Community School District

The Pleasant Valley Community School District is a public school district in Scott County, Iowa. Based in Bettendorf, but having a Pleasant Valley address, the district spans areas of eastern Bettendorf, as well as the outlying communities of Pleasant Valley, Riverdale and LeClaire.

The superintendent is Dr. Jim Spelhaug, and the assistant superintendent is Brian Strusz. School board members are elected from seven director districts, five within Bettendorf's city limits and two others serving LeClaire-area residents. The board meets twice monthly at the district's administrative center.

District enrollment is 3,454 students.[1] The school has one of the largest bands in the state of Iowa, more than 300 people are in it.

The school district is accredited by the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools and the Iowa Department of Education.

Facilities

Located inside the Bettendorf city limits are two of the district's four elementary schools (Pleasant View and Riverdale Heights, as well as the brand new Hopewell Elementary which opened in the 2011-2012 school year), Pleasant Valley High School and the administrative center. Junior high students are bussed to Pleasant Valley Junior High School, on the outskirts of LeClaire. In LeClaire, in-town elementary students attend Bridgeview Elementary while students living in outlying areas are assigned to Cody Elementary.
