FAQ

How long does it take to create a transcript?

From scratch, a full transcript takes approximately six hours per half hour of airtime.

As an acting student, it's great to have scripts to hand, but could you have the scripts posted with the indication of names as to who is speaking?

Sorry, we would like to but we need volunteers to do this and they are thin on the ground. We also find those that do volunteer do not appreciate how tedious and time-consuming it is, and simply drift off. If you want this, volunteer!

What is the most under-read page on this site?

The Terms of Use page.

I have a few edited scripts I'd like to contribute. How would I go about doing so?

If it just one or two, you can use our contact form to send them. If you have a few, drop us a note, we will reply and you can attach them to a reply.

What is the difference between a script and a transcript?

In simple terms, a script is written before the episode airs and a transcript is produced after it airs. A transcript is a script too, but a script need not be a transcript. A script is often quite different from the end result. You can try the experimental feature "script view", by clicking on the link to the top left of any transcript. This will reformat the transcript so it has the appearance more of a script. This will work better with some transcripts and not others.

When will the transcript for {this show} be ready?

The best answer is: It will be done, when it is done.

This is not an exact science, and everything can change in a second. Transcripts for the majority of shows are generally past first draft version within 24 hours of them airing. Canadian and Australian shows are almost always late. Add another day to a week for these. British shows can sometimes be ready in less than an hour of airing, up to 48 hours. There are many reasons why a transcript may be delayed though. The best thing you can do is , to receive a notification of when transcripts are posted. Messaging us, especially within 48 hours of air time, only slows down the production of all transcripts and should be avoided. The only way to speed up a transcript is to do it yourself.

Why are finales almost always late?

You know? People lose interest in TV shows incredibly quickly. Not only does this happen after every episode, but also at the end of each season.

Why don't you transcribe old shows/past episodes?

Time and money. In general, fans of a TV show lose interest at a rate of approximately 50% per day, per day. Each transcript on this site takes a considerable amount of time to produce. We are not trying to gain "hits" by using millions of "keywords" and "keyphrases". We want our audience to comprise of genuinely interested fans. We strive not only for quality content, but also quality visitors. (People think more about going on a nostalgia trip than actually do.) Additionally, all this additional data results in higher overheads, which results in worse performance. The more data a site has, the longer it takes to fix or maintain anything. It's practical. It's not being greedy. We have no wish to shoot ourselves in the foot.

Why do you not cover many reality shows?

Reality shows are much harder to transcribe. There is much less demand for their transcripts. Interest is lost in an episode at a much faster rate.

Why do you not cover children's shows?

Simply, we cannot morally or legally monetize these, and unfortunately we need to make ends meet (as well as not fall out with advertisers and/or parents). The odd ones that we do have are more by accident than design.

It's too light/dark in here!

Use the on/off switch to the top right of any transcript to read dark on light or light on dark.

Why are the times all GMT?

TV is now a global medium. I have no wish to appear to be prejudiced by time-zone or cause people more complex time calculations. USA has seven time-zones. Australia has four. Russia has eleven. All such people have to calculate anyway, and most people know how their current time relates to GMT, so it seems the most practical.

Why do some titles have "NT" appended?

"NT" is a generally known abbreviation for "No Text", but here, this also means "No Transcript". This is occasionally used as a placeholder for indefinitely delayed transcripts.

Why is a show's air date wrong?

There are a few reasons why this may happen: Time-zone differences. Delays. Change of schedule. You will probably find this only affects certain shows, e.g. Australian. These should just be considered as an indication.

Why did I not get a reply to my message?

There are a few reasons why this may happen: Asking something to which the answer can either be found in the FAQ or easily elsewhere on the site. Rudeness and/or forgetting manners. Asking an irrelevant or inappropriate question. Technical failure. On occasion, I may read a message when busy, which marks it as read, and neglect to return to it later. Perhaps you made a typo in your email address? Perhaps the answer ended up in your spam can?

Where did «this show» disappear to?

On an extremely rare occasion we get asked to remove something. If the request appears to be genuine, the easiest thing for us to do is comply. We will not say who asked. On the other hand, this site has permission from several production companies or networks legal staff, legal agents, publicity managers, etc. and some conditions/restrictions may apply.
