Zhejiang University of Finance and Economics located in the picturesque city of Hangzhou, the capital of Zhejiang Province, Zhejiang University of Finance and Economics (hereinafter referred to as ZUFE) is a prestigious institution of higher education with economy-related disciplines as the key disciplines, ensuring a coordinated development of various disciplines, namely, Economics, Management, Humanities, Law, Science, Engineering and Arts. ZUFE, founded in 1974, was formerly known as Zhejiang Academy of Public Finance and Banking, and in 1987 she was renamed as Zhejiang Institute of Finance and Economics with the approval of the former State Education Commission. Then In 1991, the university was authorized as a bachelor's degree granting institution, in 2003 an institution granting master's degree, and in 2006, ZUFE got “Excellence” in the Undergraduate Teaching Quality Assessment initiated by Ministry of Education. In 2012, ZUFE became an institution qualified to grant doctoral degree in “National Special Needs Services Personnel Training Project”. In 2013, approved by the Ministry of Education, the university finally adopted the name Zhejiang University of Finance and Economics.

ZUFE now includes three campuses: Xiasha Campus (main campus), Wenhua Campus and Chang’an campus, occupying an area of 2300 mu(153 ha) in total with the construction area of 0.97 million square meters. The university has 14 schools, 2 teaching centers, 1 independent college, 51 research institutes and centers, and it is entitled to confer bachelor's degree, master’s degree and doctoral degree and is accredited to enroll international students and students from Hong Kong and Macao Special Administrative Regions. There are more than 24,000 full-time undergraduates and postgraduates studying here (9651 of them are in the independent college). The university possesses fixed assets under management as high as 1.647 billion, 10% of which are for teaching- and research-related equipment and facilities, the 71 specialized laboratories for instance. The university library holds a collection of more than 2.33 million volumes, 2035 academic journals, 4.67 million e-books and 30,000 e-journals; moreover, it has set up a featured sub-library particularly for the collection of the works of the Nobel Economics Prize Winners, works of ZUFE faculties and works related to Zhejiang Businessman.

ZUFE at present offers one doctoral degree program in “National Special Needs Services Personnel Training Project”, 6 first-levelmaster’s degree programs in Applied Economics, Theoretical Economics, Business Administration,Public Administration, Law and Statistics, 44 second-level master's degree programs and 6 professional master's degree programs. In addition, the university owns 1 Zhejiang Provincial Philosophy & Social Science Key Research Base, 3 Provincial Humanities and Social Science Key Research Bases, 8 Provincial Key Disciplines, 2 Provincial Key Laboratories, 1 Provincial Key Innovation Team and 1 Provincial University Innovation Team. What’s more, the university consists of 45 specialties for undergraduate studies, including 4 state-level featured specialties, 2 specialties in state-level comprehensive reform pilot projects, 11 provincial key specialties, 6 provincial excellent specialties, 1 state-level teaching group, and 4 provincial teaching groups. As to the courses, the university provides 4 state-level Excellent Resource Sharing Courses, 4 state-level Excellent Courses, 29 provincial Excellent Courses, 10 state-level textbooks, 44 provincial key textbooks, as well as 1 provincial innovation experiment zone for personal training, 1 provincial innovation demonstration base for postgraduates and 7 provincial experiment teaching demonstration centers. In recent years, the university has got 4 state-level second-class Teaching Achievement Awards, 3 provincial first-class Teaching Achievement Awards and it is a member of the 31 State-level Demonstration Universities for College English.

ZUFE has 1326 faculty and staff members, among whom 910 are academic staff (85% of them are doctors and masters) including 155 professors and 324 associate professors, which accounts for 53% of the total number. The university has over ten top-level outstanding experts, including those who are nominated in the national project of “Hundred, Thousand, Ten Thousand Talents”, who are supported by Ministry of Education Program for New Century Excellent Talents, who receive the Government Special Allowance of the State Council, and those who are province- or ministry-level middle-aged and young experts for their outstanding contributions. In addition, the university has 91 experts supported by the New Century 151 Talents Project of Zhejiang province, 30 experts supported by Provincial Middle-aged and Young Talents project, 2 figures supported by Provincial Propaganda and Cultural System “Group of Five” Talent Program, 1 National Model Teacher and other 22 teachers who are Provincial Master Teachers, Provincial Teaching New Stars, Provincial Excellent Teachers and Advanced Individual of Provincial Teacher’s Ethics.

In recent years, ZUFE has got 6 Excellent Research Achievement Awards (Humanities and Social Sciences) of the Ministry of Education and other 24 province- or ministry-level Research Achievement Awards. The university has undertaken many top-level research projects including the followings: 1 Major Project of National Social Science Fund, 2 Sub-projects of National Science and Technology Major Project, 103 Projects of National Social Science Fund and National Natural Science Fund, 1 Major Project of Key Projects of Philosophy and Social Sciences Research of the Ministry of Education, 378 other province- or ministry-level projects of humanities and social sciences. The above numbers rank forefront among Zhejiang provincial universities. The university has published 2769 academic papers in the journals indexed by CSSCI such asSocial Sciences in China,Economic Research,Management World, andPhilosophical Researches, as well as 218 academic monographs. The two publications issued by our universityCollected Essays on Finance and EconomicsandYearBook of The Non-Public Sectors of The Economy in Zhejiangare published openly at both home and abroad while the former is listed as one of “national top hundred” Journals of Social Sciences,Chinese Core Journals,Chinese University Core Journals of Humanities & Social Sciences, and Chinese Social Science Citation Index (CSSCI) Journals.

ZUFE has constantly given high priority to the improvement of student quality by promoting educational reform and encouraging excellent students to take bi-degrees or change their original majors to their favorites. The university attaches great importance to a full range of cooperation and exchanges in international education. It has established close academic relations and collaborations with 73 universities in 21 countries by advancing international programs such as Teachers Exchange Program, Students Exchange Program and Credit Transfer System. Besides, the university has conducted several teaching programs like ACCA, CGA, Sino-US cooperation class and Sino-Canada cooperation class. Undergraduate supervisory system is now in full operation in ZUFE, which provides a good environment and system insurance for the development of students. During the past 5 years, ZUFE students have received 11 international, 41 national and 984 provincial awards in various disciplines and science and technology contests. The ZUFE graduates (either undergraduates or postgraduates) are widely welcomed by employers so that the initial employment rate has reached 95%.

History

Zhejiang University of Finance and Economics, formerly known as Zhejiang Academy of Public Finance and Banking founded in 1974, is a province-level university located in Hangzhou. During its past 40 years, the university has changed its names and its campus sites several times and in 1987 she was renamed as Zhejiang Institute of Finance and Economics with the approval of the former State Education Commission. In 2013, approved by the Ministry of Education, the university finally adopted the new name Zhejiang University of Finance and Economics (ZUFE). In 1991, the university was authorized as a bachelor's degree granting institution, in 2003 an institution granting master's degrees, and in 2012 an institution qualified to grant doctoral degree in “National Special Needs Services Personnel Training Project”.
