Zaratan (Dungeons & Dragons)

A zaratan is an enormous, passive turtle from the fictional Dungeons & Dragons fantasy role playing game, based on the legendary zaratan.

Publication history

The zaratan first appeared in second edition for the Al-Qadim setting in the Monstrous Compendium Al-Qadim Appendix (1992),[1] and reprinted in the Monstrous Manual (1993).[2]

The zaratan appeared in third edition in the Arms and Equipment Guide (2003).[3]

Description

Within the game, zaratans can grow to have shells over 300 feet in diameter which can be mistaken for small tropical islands because they spend the majority of their lives asleep.
