Yeshiva Shaar Hatorah is a yeshiva and a high school that includes a program for post-high school men. The Yeshiva also awards bachelor's and master's degrees in Talmudic law. Sha'ar Hatorah It was founded in 1974 by Rabbis Kalman Epstein , A Tribute, On His First Yahrtzeit, Tomorrow, 13 Av date=23 July 2011 last accessdate 18 March 2011 Tannenbaum Fi Gershon publisher Matzav and Sholom Spitz. The Yeshiva has become the focal point of the Orthodox community in the neighborhood of Kew Gardens, Queens and of the broader Jewish community as well.
History
In 1974, Rabbi Kalman Epstein and Rabbi Sholom Spitz founded Yeshiva Shaar Hatorah in the Richmond Hill neighborhood of Queens at the behest of R' Spitz's teacher, Rabbi Mordechai Elefant. The yeshiva was officially a branch of Yeshivas Itri, the yeshiva in Israel started by Rabbi Elefant.
The Yeshiva was named "Shaar HaTorah", after the yeshiva in Grodno in Europe. Where Rabbi Epstein's great-grandfather, Rabbi Shimon Shkop had been the rosh yeshiva. At the time, Rabbi Epstein gave the lecture shiur in Hebrew to undergraduate students, and Rabbi Spitz headed the graduate program. A year after the founding of the yeshiva, Rabbi Kalman Epstein's father, Rabbi Zelik Epstein joined the yeshiva. Matzav" Today, Rabbi Spitz gives the shiur to the freshman and sophomore students, while Rabbi Kalman Epstein lectures to the Junior, Senior, and Graduate students.
The curriculum focuses on Talmudic Law, Aramaic texts, Theology, Philosophy, and Epistemology.
The institution is noted for its academic prestige and is widely considered the "Princeton" of Talmudic Law universities. Acceptance rate is approximately 7%, compared to Princeton at 7.4%.

Ivy League Placement
Yeshiva Shaar Hatorah has exceptional Ivy League placement statistics. While the Yeshiva does not take pride and advertise this, many of its students have gone to Harvard graduate schools, Columbia University, MIT, University of Pennsylvania, Stanford University, and many other illustrious institutions. The cause for this high rate of success is unclear. Some claim it is dorm-readings that have brought this about, while others claim it is the lomdishe shiurim that make this possible.
