William Edward Briggs Priestley

William Priestley

Sir William Edward Briggs Priestley (12 April 1859 – 25 March 1932)[1] was a Liberal politician from the West Riding of Yorkshire. He was Member of Parliament (MP) for Bradford East.

He was the son of Briggs Priestley (1821–1907), a Thornton-born millhand who became a major mill-owner in Bradford, Mayor of Bradford for 1877–78 and MP for neighbouring Pudsey from 1906 to 1918. His younger brother Arthur was MP for Grantham.[2]

William Priestley was also elected as Mayor of Bradford for 1904–05. He was elected as MP for Parliament in the 1906 general election,[3] having failed to unseat Bradford East's Conservative MP in the 1900 general election. He held the seat until his defeat at the 1918 general election.[4]
