History

Well, it all started in 2001 when an enterprising young man thought to himself, why is it so expensive for backpackers to hire a campervan and travel around Australia - and thus Wicked Campers was born.[2]

The intention was to provide campervans, combining transport and accommodation for one cheap price, to travellers from all over the world to get around Australia on a backpackers budget, leaving more money in their pockets to explore more of the country and to enjoy more of what's on offer. Costs were kept low by buying secondhand vans and painting them with great looking graffiti to cover up small dints and scratches. Travellers were given unlimited kilometers to go where they wanted and were not charged for minor superficial damages to the vans - thus having more freedom in every sense for their journey.

Starting with just 15 vans in Brisbane, this philosophy worked wonders and now these Wicked vans are the trademark of a successful business all over the world.

However, with a successful idea came expansion and new depots were needed to cater for the demand in different locations and one way travelers, so the next phase of the Wicked story began. Now there are 9 locations across Australia with thousands of stories of adventure and wonderful memories.

And of course Wicked couldn't stop there. Two years ago Wicked had a calling across the Tasman from New Zealand the world capital of campervans launching its first of three depots in the land of the long white cloud. Then came Wicked UK a year later with Wicked Italy not long after. There are now plans for Wicked depots in other locations around the globe where budget conscious travelers want to explore, with more cash in their pockets.

Charity involvement

Wicked Campers has partnered with Mates Race [3] and Book Aid International [4] to raise money for charity. One of their vehicles was also used on the Australian leg of a couple's road trip to raise money for Cool Earth and One World Futbol.[5]
