Wet N' Wild Waterworld is a waterpark located at 8804 S. Desert in Anthony, Texas.
Park
Wet N Wild first opened in the 1970s when Berry H. Edwards purchased the KOA campground in Anthony, Texas a small town outside El Paso. When his son suggested a waterslide for the campgrounds pool. Berry visited the now closed Wild Wild Wet in Anaheim, California for research. In 1979 he installed two Plantation Plastics waterslides (powered by a Chrysler diesel engine connected to a water pump!) and voila, a waterpark was born. The park opened as Wet N Wild Waterslides, charging $2.50 per half hour to ride 2 slides, "Blue Streak' and "Corkscrew" In 1980, after adding a 12 foot deep "Volcano Lake," a water zip line, and a few mor in-house slides. Berry then changed the name to Wet N Wild Waterworld (not affiliated with any other Wet N Wild parks), beginning a new era of fun in the sun the would charm the region. The park is open from the first weekend in May, through Labor Day. It has over twenty-five rides and attractions. In addition to traditional water rides, the park has a wave pool, a large picnic area with grills and tables, a restaurant, inner tube rentals, shallow kiddie pools, a spray park, a lazy river, a climbing wall, and slides.
Attractions
2014 marks the 35th season of the family owned waterpark. It is currently owned by Chandra Edwards-Cottingham and Conan Edwards, Berry's children. Annual improvements have expanded the park's offerings to over 25 rides and attractions including, "The little Rio Grande" a 1200' long leisure river added in 1982 and the, "Wild Island Wave Pool" added in 1995, featuring 19,702, square feet and 335,500 gallons of water. Wet N Wild began adding more attractions such as the thrill ride the' "Screamer" a 167 foot tall bodyslide/drop slide added in 1991; "The Amazon" a 398' semi-enclosed tube slide by (Pro slide Technology) added in 1999; and "The Alien Vortex" a 165' body slide/bowl slide by (Aquatika) added in 2003. Also added in 2003 were "The Slippery Rock Climbing Challenge" and "The Slippery Monkey Ladders"
The park allows guests to bring in their own food and drink, including beer and wine (except during special events and parties). No glass containers permitted. The park has over 400 mature shade trees and is located on sixty acres of land.
Wet ‘N’ Wild Waterworld is also the site of numerous festivals and concerts performed in a raised stage in the middle of the open picnic area. Private sleep-overs, birthday parties, company picnics, and reserved areas can be arranged for groups.[1]
