Personal life

Roy Wang is of Han ethnicity, with ancestry from Shaanxi. He was born in Chongqing, China.

Roy Wang is currently a high school year 1 student (2019 batch) at the prestigious Chongqing Nankai Secondary School (high school), one of the top high schools in China. During the high school entrance exams, Roy Wang came in first in the art talent students auditions[1] to gain extra points and was eventually admitted to Nankai.

He was previously from Nankai's junior high school and was part of the school's choir. Roy revealed in his diaries published by his talent agency that he won first place in his grade in the school's short film competition. He received color pens as the award.

As a trainee, he started appearing in TF Family's self-produced variety shows, which had segments for dialogues, short plays, games, etc., and eventually became the emcee for segments "TF Family Press Conference"《TF家族新闻发布会》and his monologue "Yuan says so"《源来这样讲》. The variety shows are released on major Chinese video platforms such as YinYueTai.com and Bilibili.tv. TF Family's video channel also featured song covers by the trainees.

Solo works

At the tender age of 14, Roy has started writing songs and so far two were released. The first, 《因为遇见你》(translates as "Because I met you"), where he wrote both the music and lyrics, was dedicated to his fans and first showcased live on his 15th birthday concert "Roy's Serenade". The second song, 《最美的时光》(translates as "The Best of Time"), was a tribute to his high school, to celebrate its 80th anniversary in 2016. Roy Wang selected and rearranged the lyrics from student submissions, and composed the music. He sang the song twice during the school anniversary celebration concerts on October 17, 2016.[2]

When asked about his song writing process, he explained that Hong Kong singer, Eason Chan, taught him to use his mobile phone to record any inspirations he has, and subsequently mash them together.

Roy cites Singaporean singer-songwriter, JJ Lin, as one of his musical influences. From their weibo posts in September 2016, it was revealed that JJ Lin and Roy Wang were working on music together. The song 《长大以后的世界》(translates as "The world after growing up) was subsequently released on November 4, 2016. JJ Lin was the composer and producer while Roy was the vocals.

As an actor, he played the younger version of the male lead Zhang Xiaofan in the fantasy novel-to-television series "Noble Aspirations" (Chinese: 《青云志》). He also starred in the 2016 computer animated motion capture action fantasy adventure film, L.O.R.D.: Legend of Ravaging Dynasties.
