"Wait for a Minute" is a song by American rapper Tyga and Canadian singer Justin Bieber. The song was released as the first promotional single supporting Tyga's upcoming album, 'The Gold Album: 18th Dynasty'.[1] The song is produced by Maejor.[2]

Background

“ He’s in this transition period,” said Tyga of his collaborator. " I felt like when me and Chris Brown did ‘Deuces,’ it was like a moment. I feel like this would be a big moment for both of us with this song.”[3] The song is produced by Maejor Ali and was premiered on October 21.[4][5] The song was then released for digital download on October 22, 2013 [6] Then on October 29, 2013, it was serviced to rhythmic contemporary radio in the U.S.[7]

Music video

The music video was shot on November 14, 2013 in Long Beach, California. Tyga explained the concept behind the special Video. “It’s real Matrix. We got some of the guys that do CGI for some of the big movies,” said Tyga. “We’re freezing time and switching different worlds trying to get away from certain things the negative that comes with the lifestyle.[8] The video premiered on Access Hollywood in December 19, 2013 and was released on VEVO and Tyga's YouTube channel and was directed by Krista Liney [9]

Commercial performance

The song sold 68,000 digital downloads in its first week in the United States according to Nielsen Soundscan.[10] "Wait for a Minute" charted in French Singles Chart and in the United Kingdom due to strong digital download sales.[11] It debuted on the French Singles Chart at number 103.[12] In October 2013, it debuted at number 41 on the UK Singles Chart.[13] "Wait for a Minute" debuted at number 34 in the 50 singles chart of Belgium.[14] "Wait for a Minute" debuted at number 31 in Netherlands Top 100 and at number 45 in Spain.[15] It debuted at number 47 on the Canadian charts and number 6 in Denmark.[16][17]
