WHVL-LP is the MyNetworkTV affiliate for the Allegheny area of Pennsylvania. WHVL is the first commercial television station to broadcast from State College. The station is owned by Channel Communications, and broadcasts on UHF channel 29 and DTV (digital) signal on channel 27. Its call letters stand for “Happy VaLley,” a nickname for the State College area.

WHVL is available on cable throughout the Johnstown/Altoona/State College area.

Local programming

WHVL was launched on August 31, 2007, with live coverage of the Penn State “Football Eve” pep rally.

With its commitment to local issues and events, WHVL broadcasts many locally produced programs including:

The Centre Of It All - hosted by Jed Donahue (the name referring to Centre County, where the station is based).
For The Record - a public affairs show with local business leaders and politicians.
WHVL High School Game Of The Week - covering one local high school football game each week during the season since 2009.
WHVL Match Of The Week - covering one local High School wrestling match each week during the season since 2011.
Penn State Tailgate Show - broadcast pre- and post-game analysis for each Penn State football game during fall 2007 with hosts Jed Donahue, Kenny Jackson, Blair Thomas and Joanie Plake outside Beaver Stadium. This became The BlueWhite Tailgate.
The BlueWhite Tailgate - covering Penn State football with pre- and post-game coverage during the season and occasional specials covering football news.

The station occasionally presents special programs covering topics of local interest. On October 16, 2008, WHVL broadcast a live debate featuring all of the candidates of the 5th Congressional District running in the 2008 election. It also broadcast the Penn State University vs. Lock Haven University wrestling match on February 23, 2008.

The station also broadcasts local programming produced by others including Pit Pass" with co-hosts Ron Fox and Jan Miller, a show covering auto racing in Pennsylvania.
