Vassak Mamikonian

Vassak Mamikonian was the Armenian sparapet for King Arsaces II (Arshak II) (reigned c. 350-368). He was known to be a great general who had many victories against the Persian king Shapur II, but was finally captured along with Arsaces II and flayed, his body displayed at the gates of the castle where Arsaces II was kept captive.

To symbolize taking power from Armenia, Shapur attempted to have the bones of the Armenian kings taken to Persia. After Mamikonian defeated the Persians and reclaimed the bones of the Arshakuni monarchs, he had them buried at Aghdzk.[1]
