Varagur is situated on the banks of Kudamurutti River, a tributary of Kaveri river. Sri Venkatesa Perumal Kovil and Sri Maha Kailasanatha Kovil are famous and ancient temples constructed here. This is the village where the great saint Narayana Theertha swamigal who composed the famous songs Tharangini, attained Deva mukti after he received the Vishwaroopa dharshan of Lord Venkatesa Perumal.[2]
Ancient names of the village
Varagur was originally known as "Bhoopati Rajapuram". When Great saint Narayana Theertha swamigal came here from Andhra Pradesh, the village was called as Varahapuri. Varagur is also known as "Bhooloka Vaikuntam" (Heaven on earth) before 1000 years.[3]
