Vakadu is a village on the bank of Swarnamukhi/Suvarnamukhi[1] and a Mandal in Nellore district in the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh.[2] Vakadu has abundant under-ground water resources, as well as fertile land. Vakadu is the birthplace of Ex-C.M. of Andhra Pradesh, Dr. Nedurumalli Janardhana Reddy, Padmasri Nedurumalli Bala Krishna Reddy and Noel Haneesh.

Vakadu has well-connected roadways, a profitable Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation bus depot and a 30-bed government hospital.

Recently, a dam was constructed across the Swarnamukhi River to provide access to the village as well as to preserve the underground water. Vakadu waters various remote villages from a large water tank installed in the village.

Vakadu is well known for six old temples: the Nageswara Swami Temple (Lord Siva), Sri Rama Temple, Sri Rama mandiram, Sri Alaghanatha swami temple, Sri Nagarapamma temple and Sri Desamma temple. A more recent temple is called the Sri Chenna Kesava swami temple.

The primary occupation is agriculture, of rice, ground nuts and sugar cane. As well, it operates a thriving shrimp industry.

The nearest railway station is Gudur Junction (abbreviation is GDR) on the Chennai-Vijayawada line.
