Vaania Kapoor Achuthan is an Indian competitive swimmer. At the ages of 9 years Vaania was selected to represent the Karnataka state swimming team. Vaania has achieved many swimming records and has won many medals both at the nationals and state competitions.

Profile

Vaania Kapoor Achuthan[4][5] is from Bangalore, Karnataka. She is currently studying in the Primus Public School in Bangalore. She began swimming when she was only 3 years old. Her first medal came when she took part at the Bangalore Sports club competition and since then Vaania has been dominating the sport in her category. As of 2013 she has won more than 150 medals in all competitions, from school to national, of which 14 are silver, four are bronze and the rest are gold.

Vaania also is demonstrates all-round abilities, with accomplishments in theatre where she came first all over India at the Trinity Guildhall London Initial Speech and Drama Competition.

Career

In her debutte appearance at the State Sub Junior Aquatic Championships in 2011 Vaania won two Gold, two Silver, and one Bronze medal. At the age of 6 Vaania secured first place in five swimming events at the 9th Invitational Age Group Swimming Championship held at the Rotary Corporation Sports Academy's Swimming Pool, in Belgaum, Karnataka. The events were 25m Breast Stroke, 25m Butterfly Stroke, 25m Back Stroke, 25m Freestyle & 50m Freestyle, thereby securing the Individual Championship as well.[6] Now at the age of ten, she has already won eleven Gold, three Silver, and two Bronze medals along with a couple of ‘Best Swimmer’ awards in state-level events. At the 30th Sub Junior National Aquatic Championship (2013), Goa, she won four gold medals and broke two previous records in the process.[7][8]
