The University of Souk Ahras Mohamed Chérif Messaadia (Arabic:جامعة سوق أهراس - محمد الشريف مساعدية ) is a university located in Souk Ahras, Algeria. It was founded in 1998 as an annex within the university of Annaba. In 2011, it was officially promoted to an accredited university with six faculties and two institutes.[1]

History

The University of Souk Ahras was founded in 1998 as an annex attached to the University of Annaba offering only three courses. It was later promoted to a Center on 18 December 2001. On 17 June 2010, the Minister of Mujahideen (War Veterans) named the University Center after the deceased fr:Mohamed Chérif Messaadia, on the instruction of President Abdelaziz Bouteflika.

On December 10, 2011, President Bouteflika officially announced the promotion of the Center to become the University of Souk Ahras, in an executive decree, number 12-245 of 4 June 2012 (14 Rajeb 1433). There are currently over 11,000 students.
