University of Afrin

The University of Afrin is a university established in the city of Afrin by the Afrin Canton Board of Education in the de facto Federation of Northern Syria – Rojava in Syria. It started teaching in August 2015 in Kurdish and Arabic. Planned programs are in literature, engineering and economics, including institutes for medicine, topographic engineering, music and theater, business administration and the Kurdish language.[1]

After teaching three programs (Electromechanical Engineering, Kurdish Literature and Economy) in the first academic year, the second academic year 2016/17 has three additional programs (Human Medicine, Journalism and Agricultural Engineering), while the number of university professors has increased to 22, and 250 students out of 538 applicants were accepted.[2]
