Uji tea

A green tea plantation in Minamiyamashiro, Kyoto

Uji tea (宇治茶 Uji-cha) is a type of green tea leaves produced mainly in the Uji, Kyoto.

Uji-chashi was transported in a special ceremony to the shogun in Edo every year for over 200 times until the Meiji era.[1]

There are efforts to inscribe Uji tea into the list of Intangible cultural heritage.[2]
