Brian Firkus (born August 28, 1990), better know by his stage name Trixie Mattel, is an American drag queen and actor from Milwaukee, Wisconsin, known as a contestant on the seventh season of RuPaul's Drag Race.
Her drag name originated from an abusive stepfather who would call her Trixie anytime she acted feminine. Mattel came from the brand that created the barbie doll.[1]
Early life
Born into a Native American family, Mattel grew up in Milwaukee and is half Ojibwe. He attended school with fellow Drag Race contestant Max. He started doing drag at 19 years old, appearing in a stage performance of the Rocky Horror Show.[2]
Career
RuPaul's Drag Race
Trixie Mattel competed in season 7 of RuPaul's Drag Race, placing sixth. The initial audition video was a snatch game character of Anne Frank, considered too controversial to air. Trixie was eliminated in episode 4 losing the lip-sync off with Pearl, in what was considered a controversial decision. Fans questioned whether the show was scripted, the hashtag"#JusticeForTrixie" trended and notable drag queens such as Lady Bunny tweeted their confusion with the decision. Trixie was brought back to the show in episode 8, winning the "Conjoined Twins" challenge with Pearl, but was eliminated in episode 10, losing the lip-sync off to Ginger Minj.[3][4]
Life After Drag Race
Trixie went on to take more television roles, produce a web series with fellow season 7 alumnus Katya, and continues to perform on stage around the world.
