Trampolene are a British alternative rock band, from Swansea, Wales, now relocated to London.[1] They are Jack Jones (vocals, guitar, spoken word), Wayne Thomas (bass, vocals) and Rob Steele (drums, vocals).

During 2016 they have been regularly headlining shows including KOKO, Nambucca and The Water Rats in London, plus venues across the UK including Manchester, Leeds, Sheffield, York, Swansea, Dundee, Preston, Plymouth and the John Peel Centre for Creative Arts in Stowmarket.[2] They also played the Greenpeace stage at Glastonbury festival for the second year running, and headlined the Jack Rocks This Feeling stage at Leeds Festival. Other festival appearances included Y Not, Kendal Calling and Party in the Pines. Sellout headline shows for This Feeling (in association with Jack Daniel's "Jack Rocks") club nights and festival stages across the UK have cemented Trampolene's live reputation, This Feeling saying they "do not fail to deliver with their unique combo of garage rock, kitchen-sink poetry and acoustic heartbreakers"[3] and music website Gigslutz adding "the raw combination of the spoken word united with a weightier expression of rock rhythm symbolised This Feeling’s manifestation of exciting new talent".[4]

Jack Jones has also performed spoken word poetry solo, supporting The Libertines on their 2016 UK arena tour, and the final date of their European tour in Vienna. Jack was featured in the NME in which he is introduced as "Jack Jones, singer in Welsh indie rockers Trampolene, plucked from life living in the back of his broken-down van to follow in the proud pre-Libs poetry footsteps of none other than Russell Brand."[5]

In November 2016, Jack became lead guitarist in Peter Doherty's band the Puta Madres, touring Argentina, France and UK. He also opened the shows with a solo set of spoken word and Trampolene songs.[6] During May 2016, Jack supported Peter Doherty on his "Eudaimonia" tour[7] and also played guitar for him. The Libertines feature on the spoken word poem "To Be A Libertine" on Pocket Album Four,[8] which Jack was asked to perform at The Libertines Unity Rocks show at Brixton Academy on 7 September 2016.[9]

Trampolene have released four download-only "Pocket Albums" (mini-LPs) and three limited edition numbered 7" vinyl singles through Mi7 Records, plus a cd compilation of the singles and first two Pocket Albums called "Artwork of Youth" via Japanese label Vinyl Junkie Recordings. Pocket Album FIve is due for release on 25 November 2016, and will be followed by the release of the band's debut full-length album in 2017.[10]

History

Trampolene are named after the Julian Cope song "Trampolene".[11] They formed in their hometown of Swansea - Jack Jones and Wayne Thomas having met when playing for the Football Association of Wales[12] and Jack knew drummer Kyle (aka Mr Williams) from school.[13]

They moved to a flat in London with the idea of it being a 24/7 creative work factory, like Andy Warhol's Factory, where no internet was allowed, and they invited artists to come round and share ideas and talk about songwriting, poetry, painting and society in general.[14] Jack roadied for Palma Violets and the Strypes in 2013. Although Jack suffers from Crohn's disease resulting in regular hospital appointments for treatment,[15] the band began to play gigs across the country, gaining support from people such as Ray Davies, journalists Pete Paphides and Caitlin Moran, and musicians Carl Barât and Nick Hodgson.[16]

Through mi7 Records they released limited edition 7" singles "My Bourgeoisie Girl/ Under the Strobe Light" and "You Do Nothing For Me/ Adrenaline" in 2013. "Under the Strobe Light" made them online music magazine Louder than War 's New Band of the Day.[17] Following the release of download-only single "I Don't Know" in early 2014, the Guardian called Trampolene "the saviours of indie guitar music".[16] This was followed in April 2014 by their first downloadable "Pocket Album" (5 songs and 1 poem)[18] "Alcohol Kiss" which was also released as a three track limited edition single.[19] They toured throughout the year across the UK and also in France,[20] finishing the year supporting Carl Barât & the Jackals on New Year's Eve at the Macbeth in Hoxton, London.[21]

Trampolene recorded a live session for "artists in residence" on John Kennedy's X-Posure show on Radio X[29] and also for Gigwise[30] in November 2015.

The video for poem "Pound Land" was premiered on Gigwise on 18 December.[38]

Jack was asked to be Chrissie Hynde's guitarist, but turned it down due to band commitments with Trampolene.

In January 2016, Jack Jones performed poems on The Libertines arena tour, including the O2 Arena in London, in front of 20000 people.[39]

Trampolene's first gig of 2016 was at Brixton Jamm on 6 February.[40]

Jack Jones' first fashion shoot was for OutThere Style magazine, published February 2016[41] and the band were featured wearing jewellery for Pirate Treasures "Stage Style" collection also in February 2016.[10]

Download-only single "Tom Hardy" was This Feeling's Track of the Day on Gigslutz website 28 February 2016.[42]

Trampolene have been on a UK tour beginning in April 2016,[2] with headline dates across the country throughout the year.

During May 2016, Jack supported Peter Doherty on his "Eudaimonia" UK tour and also played guitar for him. Venues included Glasgow Barrowlands Ballroom, Manchester Albert Hall and two nights at London's Hackney Empire (where Wayne joined him to sing harmony).[43]

Trampolene's "homecoming" show at The Scene Bar in Swansea on 30 September made Welsh newspaper headlines, as a fan travelled from Japan to see them.[47]

Jack Jones recorded an acoustic session for The Selector radio station of The British Council.[48]

"Divided Kingdom" was released as a single on 11 October 2016 and was This Feeling's Track of the Day on Gigslutz website,[3] plus Track/Song of the Day on other online music magazines.[49][50] It was first played on Radio X by John Kennedy and on BBC Radio Wales by Adam Walton.

Pocket Album Five is due for release on 25 November 2016.

In November 2016, the day after Trampolene headlined a sold out show for This Feeling (club night) at Water Rats in London, Jack flew to Argentina as Peter Doherty's lead guitarist in his band the Puta Madres, for a November/December 2016 tour of Argentina, France and UK. They played two shows for the reopening of Le Bataclan in Paris, followed by a week's tour across France. Jack Jones opened the shows with a solo music and spoken word set, before rejoining the stage as Peter's lead guitarist.[51] He was described in a five star review in The Independent newspaper as "Swanseas's finest" and "sickeningly talented".[6]
