Trag

Trag is a village and Union Council of Mianwali District in the Punjab province of Pakistan.^[1] It in the Isakhel tehsil.^[2] Trag is one of the biggest villages of Tehsil Isa Khel (Tarna, an old name), District Mianwali.

Trag is named after an ancestor or elder, literally meaning an “Iron Helmet”,^[4] having a close link (not direct) with Isa Khan Niazi (the ancestor of Isakhelvi's) being his grandson. He was a combatant in Haibat Khan Niazi's army. Trag came into being in between 1660-1685. It is populated by one of the significant clan Shado Khel hailing from Niazi Pathan.^[5] These people are basically Afghan in origin and adventured Hindustan along with their main tribe i.e. Niazi. Their entry route was Wana-Tank-Dera Ismail Khan-Kundal-Lakki Marwat-Isakhel-to present location of the village.

The family tree of Trag is Trag bin Jahangir bin Ameer bin Shado bin Khar bin zam bin Tora bin Khamim bin Wagan bin Jamal bin Niazi. He had three sons, Ako, Beko, and Khero. The descendants of Ako are commonly known as Akowaal and while those of Khero and Beko are known by their individual clan.^[4]

The village Trag although being named after a Niazi is occupied mostly by his descendants and still has a lot of tribes who are not descendants of Trag and occupy a considerable portion of this village, these include Arayin (the largest individual cast after the Niazi's of this area), Syed, Kallu, Bucha, Bada, Balochi Khel, Sonaar, Qureshi, Jhangi Khel^[6] (Isakhel), and Porra. The Niazi Pathans are the majority of the population in the area.
