Tom Kennedy (journalist)
Tom Kennedy (born April 12, 1952) is a Canadian television journalist, currently is retired but was a former investigative reporter for CTV's W5. Recently he was the London bureau chief for CTV News. He was a victim of a Bell Media layoff in November 2015 and was relieved of his duties with CTV.
Born in St. John's, Newfoundland and Labrador, Kennedy was educated at Memorial University of Newfoundland and at Ryerson University where he received a Bachelor of Arts in journalism. He began working at The Globe and Mail as an editor and reporter. He then moved on to CBC News in 1976 where he spent the next twenty-five years.
In 1980, he married French-Canadian Sylvie Goulet with whom he had two kids. In 1985, the family moved to Beijing China where Tom Kennedy was an correspondent for CBC News. He was also one of the few Canadian journalists present when the crisis in Tiananmen Square hit in Beijing, in June 1989.[1] He was awarded a Gemini Award for the coverage of those events.
In 2001, he became the CTV News bureau chief in London, England and spent the next dozen years covering major international events. Since 2012, he has been based out of Toronto doing documentaries for the CTV W5 public affairs program. He has won numerous awards including two Gemini Awards and a Canadian Screen Award. He is also bilingual.
