Tilganga Institute of Ophthalmology (TIO) or Tilganga Eye Centre for prevention and control of blindness program in Nepal is the implementing body of the Nepal Eye Program, a non-profit, community based, non-government organization. The current facility was opened in 1994. [1]

With an aim to act as a model for treatment research and training, independent of, but in co-operation with all other eye care centres and organizations in Nepal, the current TIO facility was opened in 1994.

Community Eye Centres[4]

For the provision of basic ophthalmic services in rural areas of Nepal the TIO has established a number of Community Eye Centres (CEC). The eye centres are currently located in:

  1. Hetauda CEC, Makwanpur
  2. Ramechhap CEC, Manthali
  3. Dhading CEC , Dhading Besi
  4. Solukhumbu CEC, Phaplu
  5. Nuwakot CEC, Bidur
  6. Sindhu CEC, Sindhupalchowk
  7. Jiri CEC, Jiri
  8. Rolpa CEC, Rolpa
  9. Bhaktapur CEC, Bhaktapur
  10. Dolkha CEC, Dolkha

The centres, in additional to providing clinical services, also provide eye education and cataract screening services.
