"This is Your Song" is a song written by Irish singer-songwriter Ronan Keating and Steve Mac, released as the second single from his fifth studio album, Songs for My Mother. The song previously made appearances as the B-side to "When You Say Nothing at All", and I Hope You Dance, and inclusion on the albums Turn It On and 10 Years of Hits. Keating made the decision to release the track as its own single on May 17, 2009, only be available as a download.[1]

Writing

Keating wrote this song for both of his parents around March 1998, a month after his mother's death from breast cancer.[2] Originally he had no intention to record the song, but after his bandmates' persuasion a recording was made for his first single.[1] Keating talked about the difficulties he faced when writing and recording this song: "I tried to capture the woman that she was in the words to this song but it wasn't easy. She loved her family more than anything in the world and all she wanted was to see them all grow up healthy, strong and happy. I guess as parents it's all we really want."[1]

Music video

The video for "This is Your Song" was filmed in Sydney, Australia around April 2009.[2] Keating is seen visiting a house that appears to be his childhood home, and his flashbacks of his childhood with his mother are projected around him.
