Thens

Thens (Thai: แถน; rtgs: Thaen) are gods or spirits worshipped in Tai folklore, predominantly Lao. They play a prominent role in the Phra Lak Phra Lam and the stories of Khun Borom.

In Laos and Northern Thailand the origins of human society, practical skills and culture are attributed to three divine ancestors, the Thens, and three earthly ancestors, who are sometimes known simply as the three great men.
