"The Chokin' Kind" is a 1967 song, later recorded by Joe Simon in 1969, written by Harlan Howard. The original version of the tune was released by Waylon Jennings in 1967. The single became Joe Simon's first number one on the R&B charts, where it stayed for three weeks. "The Chokin' Kind" was also Joe Simon's first top twenty entry on the pop singles chart.[1] It was also recorded by Z.Z. Hill in 1971, by Ella Fitzgerald on her Capitol Records release "Misty Blue," by Joss Stone in 2003 as the first track of her first album "The Soul Sessions" and as a single by Leron Thomas on the Heavenly Sweetness label.
