The Tellus Science Museum is a Smithsonian Institution-affiliate natural history and science museum in Cartersville, Georgia.
Facility contents
- Planetarium
- A large collection of mineral samples
- Complete replicas of several dinosaurs and prehistoric animals.
- Simulated fossil dig site and gold panning (for non-gold minerals).
- A photovoltaic array and wind turbine to supply power to the facility.
- A prototype eco-friendly home, developed by West Virginia University in a national competition.
History
Tellus was founded as the Weinman Mineral Museum in 1983, which closed in 2007 and was reopened as the Tellus Science Museum in 2009.[1] The museum retains the original mineral displays in the Weinman Mineral Gallery.[2]
