The Swan River Trust was a Western Australian state government statutory authority defined by the Swan and Canning Rivers Management Act 2006. The Trust reported to the Minister for Environment.

It was established in 1989 to protect and manage the Swan and Canning rivers. The Trust was the caretaker of one of Perth’s most famed natural treasures and works with community, industry, local government and other State government agencies to maintain and improve the environmental health and community benefit and amenity of the Swan Canning Riverpark. The Trust through the River Protection Strategy facilitated better coordination, collaboration and commitment between the many organisations with river responsibilities.

The Trust had several community engagement programs that allowed the Perth community to be involved in caring for the Swan Canning Riverpark including River Guardians,[1] the Dolphin Watch Project,[2] and Ribbons of Blue.[3]

On 1 July 2015,[4] the staff and functions of the Swan River Trust were merged with the Department of Parks and Wildlife. The new combined Trust and Parks and Wildlife workforce will unite a range of expertise leading to streamlined river management services and improved protection of the Swan Canning Riverpark.
