Svitlana Petrivna Zalishchuk (Ukrainian: Світлана Петрівна Заліщук, born 24 October 1982)[2] is a Ukrainian journalist and politician. In 2014, she was elected to the Verkhovna Rada.

Life

Zalishchuk studied journalism at the Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv.[3]

From June to September 2005, she was press secretary of Oleh Rybachuk, then Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine on European Integration during Yulia Tymoshenko's first term as Prime Minister of Ukraine. In September 2005, Rybachuk became Secretary of State and head of the Presidential Secretariat of Ukraine of President Viktor Yushchenko. Zalishchuk continued her work at the Presidential Secretariat until 2006.

In 2009, Zalishchuk and Rybachuk co-founded the NGO "Centre UA" (Centre of United Actions).[4][5]

While Zalishchuk held the position of executive director and coordinator at Centre UA, Rybachuk became head of the organization forming a part of his interlocking network.[6][7] In addition, he was also a member of the Supervisory Board of the International Centre for Policy Studies and COB of Suspilnist Foundation.[8]

In the same year they were among the initiators of the civil campaign "New Citizen".[9][10]

Zalishchuk is also a co-founder of the civil movement "Chesno" and Stop Censorship!, and a former reporter for 5 Kanal.[11][12]

Placed on 18th position on the party list of Petro Poroshenko Bloc, Zalishchuk was elected to the 8th Ukrainian Verkhovna Rada during the 2014 parliamentary election.[13]

In February 2016 she was a speaker at the Geneva Summit for Human Rights and Democracy.[14]

In August 2016 Zalishchuk joined the (political party) Democratic Alliance.[15] She was then co-chair of this party until November 2016.[16][17]
