Susan Rasinski McCaw (born 1962)^[1] is a businesswoman, former U.S. Ambassador to Austria (2005-2007), philanthropist and political fundraiser.

Career

McCaw is President of COM Investments, a private investment firm. Prior to this, she was Principal at Robertson Stephens & Company, a San Francisco-based investment bank where she was responsible for financing emerging growth companies in the technology industry. McCaw has also worked as an Associate in Robertson Stephens' Venture Capital Group, and served as a Business Analyst for McKinsey & Company, an international management consulting firm, in New York and Hong Kong.

Political career

McCaw was sworn in as Ambassador to Austria on November 30, 2005. United States Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice presided over the ceremony. McCaw officially assumed her post as Ambassador after presenting her diplomatic credentials to Austrian President Heinz Fischer on January 9, 2006. She announced her resignation on July 3, 2007 and left Austria on November 25, 2007.

Political fundraising

McCaw was a major fundraiser in 2004 for the Bush administration.^[2] She served as Finance Co-Chair for Bush-Cheney '04 in Washington State and was a member of the national steering committee for W Stands for Women. She also served on the Women's Coalition Advisory Board of the Republican National Committee. In 2008, McCaw served as Honorary Washington State Chair for the McCain-Palin Campaign.

Appointments

McCaw is a member of Stanford University's Board of Trustees, and served as Co-Chair of Stanford's $1 billion Campaign for Undergraduate Education. She is a founding board member and current Board Chair of the Malala Fund for girls' education. McCaw is also a board member of the Pacific Council on International Policy, the Stanford Institute for Economic Policy Research and the American Austrian Foundation. McCaw is a member of Harvard Business School's Board of Dean's Advisors, the Council on Foreign Relations, and the Council of American Ambassadors. McCaw is the Director of the Craig and Susan McCaw Foundation, focusing on education and international economic development projects. Previously, McCaw was the Co-founder and Board Chair of Team Read, a literacy program for at-risk elementary grade students, and the Co-founder of the Grameen Technology Center and board member of the Grameen Foundation.

Education

McCaw earned a BA in Economics from Stanford University, and an MBA from Harvard Business School.

Personal life

McCaw was born Susan Rasinski in Orange County, California and raised there. She is married to Craig McCaw and they have three children. They reside in Santa Barbara, California.
