Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron — Search for Homeland is a game released on the Game Boy Advance by THQ. It is based on the film Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron. It was released on October 28, 2002. A PC game, Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron — Forever Free, was released the same day.

Gameplay

A storm has caused Spirit’s herd mates to panic and run away. As he tries to calm them down, rustlers capture Spirit and take him to their ranch.

Playing as an Indian boy (Little Creek) or a girl, the player can help Spirit and his friends return to their home. There are four different horses for the player to help, and four lands to get each one through: the forest, the prairie, the cliffs and caves, and the desert. Each horse is rated by level of training and handling; the player must tame them by stroking them, talking or singing to them, and feeding them by collecting treats that they will like. They can also find items such a water skin, a flute, and a brush to help them care for their horse. There are also heart-shaped healing herbs to give to them should they become wounded.

The horse’s friendliness and health is measured by two bars. If the horse’s friendliness drops low, the horse will buck the player off and will not allow him or her to ride until he or she restores their friendliness.

Once the horse is tamed, the player must ride them through their designated land. When encountering dangerous animals such as porcupines, bears, coyotes, or cougars, the player has to buck or rear to defeat them. There are also animals that need you to complete tasks for them (such as finding food) in order to continue on your quest.

In the cliffs and caves level, the player can find a “taming talisman” that will help them ride Spirit with ease, while in the desert level, the player can find a key to the ranch where Spirit is being kept. Once they have reached Spirit, the player rides Spirit out of the ranch and across the canyon, pursued by the ranchers that have captured Spirit. The game will end with the player getting Spirit safely across.
