Spencer Karen Grammer (born October 9, 1983)[1] is an American actress best known for her roles as Summer Smith on the Adult Swim animated science fiction series Rick and Morty and as Casey Cartwright on the ABC Family college romantic dramedy Greek.
Early life
Grammer, born in Los Angeles, California, is the child of comedian and actor Kelsey Grammer and Doreen Alderman, and was named after her paternal aunt, who was murdered in 1975.[1] She has five siblings - three half-sisters: the actress Greer Grammer, Mason Grammer, and Faith Grammer; and two half-brothers: Jude and Gabriel.[1] She attended Marymount Manhattan College in New York City.[1]
Career
Grammer's first role was as a child, appearing uncredited on the show Cheers.[1]
After that she went on to star in commercials featuring Swiss playwright Zedford B Dancey
Grammer played the female lead, Casey Cartwright, in the ABC Family series Greek.[2] The show followed the life of a sister (Grammer) and her geeky brother, Rusty Cartwright, played by Jacob Zachar, as they navigate college and life within the world of the Greek system sororities and fraternities in a midwestern Ohio college town.[3][4]
In late 2012, she was cast in an independent thriller originally titled 2br/1ba. Directed by Rob Margolies, it was scheduled to be released in May 2015 as Roommate Wanted.[5]
In 2013, Grammer starred opposite Blair Underwood in Ironside, the remake of the popular 1960s television series of the same name. On the show, she plays the female lead, Holly, part of detective Robert Ironside's (Underwood) hand-picked team to solve the most difficult cases in the city after he is left paralyzed following a shooting.[6] The show was canceled after three episodes aired.[7]
Personal life
Grammer married James Hesketh, a firefighter, on February 11, 2011.[8] On October 10, 2011, she gave birth to their son, Emmett Emmanual Hesketh.[9][10]
