South Gate Ridge is a census-designated place (CDP) in Sarasota County, Florida, United States. The population was 5,688 at the 2010 census.[3] It is part of the BradentonSarasotaVenice Metropolitan Statistical Area.

Geography

South Gate Ridge is located at 27°17′11″N 82°29′48″W / 27.28639°N 82.49667°W / 27.28639; -82.49667 (27.286358, -82.496636).[4]

According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 1.8 square miles (4.7 km2), of which 1.7 square miles (4.5 km2) is land and 0.077 square miles (0.2 km2), or 3.54%, is water.[3]

As of the census[1] of 2000, there were 5,655 people, 2,473 households, and 1,607 families residing in the CDP. The population density was 3,122.5 people per square mile (1,206.3/km²). There were 2,604 housing units at an average density of 1,437.8/sq mi (555.5/km²). The racial makeup of the CDP was 94.54% White, 0.76% African American, 0.27% Native American, 1.77% Asian, 0.05% Pacific Islander, 1.56% from other races, and 1.06% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 5.22% of the population.

There were 2,473 households out of which 26.4% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 50.5% were married couples living together, 10.1% had a female householder with no husband present, and 35.0% were non-families. 26.6% of all households were made up of individuals and 11.0% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.29 and the average family size was 2.74.

In the CDP the population was spread out with 20.0% under the age of 18, 6.3% from 18 to 24, 27.9% from 25 to 44, 28.0% from 45 to 64, and 17.8% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 42 years. For every 100 females there were 91.3 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 89.6 males.

The median income for a household in the CDP was $46,164, and the median income for a family was $50,951. Males had a median income of $31,250 versus $30,000 for females. The per capita income for the CDP was $25,047. About 2.2% of families and 4.5% of the population were below the poverty line, including 2.2% of those under age 18 and 4.4% of those age 65 or over.
