The show centers on protagonist Jackson "Jax" Teller (Charlie Hunnam), the President of the club, who begins questioning the club and himself.

Season 7 premiered on September 9, 2014, and concluded on December 9, 2014.

Plot

Ten days after the events of season 6, Jax is in prison due to parole violation. He is seen coping with the loss of Tara by beating up a prisoner, which later turns out to be doing a favor for the neo-nazi prisoner Ron Tully. Jax is released from prison and Gemma picks him up. Meanwhile, Wendy - who stayed in rehab nine days - decides to persuade Jax by helping Gemma to take care of Abel and Thomas daily. Wendy discovers Juice in her apartment, and it turns out that Gemma had helped Juice by hiding him from the club due to his betrayal. The club, led by Bobby and Chibs, discover that Jax is released and head over to Scoops to greet him. Jax tells the club that since his mistakes caused Tara's death, he wants revenge on whomever's responsible, and the club accepts this. Later the same day, Nero, who has been with Mayans, has been participating as a negotiator to avoid casualties in Stockton since the Mayans killed the One-Niners and stole their guns. Nero greets Jax and the two discuss business with the Mayans and Chinese, and invite both groups to Jax's homecoming party at Redwoody (porn studio). Wayne Unser stops by Wendy's apartment, and notices an SOA bag. Suspicious, Unser comes back later to see what was in the bag, only to be put at gunpoint by Juice, and tied up and gagged in the bathtub. Later that night, the Sons greet the Grim Bastards, with the feud ended. Jax and Gemma tell T.O. that the Chinese killed Tara. The Grim Bastards grab one of Lin's guys and drop him off at Jax's house. Gemma is comforted by Nero, as Jax kills the man by putting a carving fork into the back of his skull.

SAMCRO enlists help from Indian Hills President Jury White and two young men named Renny and Gib O'Leary. They intercept the drugs that are being held by Lin's men by killing everyone and take two kilos of heroin. With their task done, Jax, Chibs, and Bobby kill Renny and Gib and plant the heroin at their house. Unknown to them, Jury checks in on the boys, only to find them dead. Jury is seen cradling Gib in his arms. Meanwhile, Juice decides to release Unser, only for him to make a deal with Juice if he gives intel on Tara's murder. Unser then helps Juice escape from Charming. At the same time, the new Sheriff Althea Jarry is introduced to Charming, with her first case being to find the person(s) responsible for Tara and Eli Roosevelt's deaths.

Gemma, Wendy, and Unser agree that the longer Juice stays in Charming, the more he is becoming unstable. Juice enlists Unser for help by getting him to call Chibs and arranging a meeting with at the diner, only for him to be cornered by Juice. Juice offers redemption for his actions, but Chibs tells Juice, "If I were you, I'd take my gun, put it in my mouth and pull the trigger." Feeling lost, Juice says goodbye and leaves. Gemma, Unser, and Wendy check Juice into a motel to make sure he leaves Charming.

With everything going SAMCRO's way, SAMCRO makes a heroin trade with the Neo-Nazis. Sheriffs Cane and Eglee observe the trade, but one of Tully's men sees them and kills Cane and critically injures Eglee. As SAMCRO deals with the setback, one of Lin's men throws a grenade and blows up Scoops, but SAMCRO and Jarry survive. Realizing it was retaliation, Jax sends Montez and Quinn to see if the guns are still safely stored, but they have been taken by the Chinese. SAMCRO member Orlin West was killed in the process. A number of Lin's men arrive at Diosa and their leader calls Nero and tells him that the attack is intended for SAMCRO. SAMCRO and Nero race to Diosa only to find the Diosa girls, the customers, and Collette have all been killed.

Feeling responsible for everyone's death, especially that of Collette, Jax decides to speed up his quest for revenge. As SAMCRO talk about their next move against Lin and finding the person who gave up intel about the warehouse, Nero decides to get answers on why Lin killed everyone at Diosa by talking to Barosky. However, Lin and his men are already there. Lin tells Nero that Jax has lied to both of them and that SAMCRO has stolen their heroin. He then tells Nero to give up Jax and SAMCRO or he kills Nero and his disabled son. Feeling frustrated, Nero confronts Jax about why he attacked Lin. Jax tells him that Gemma had said that she had witnessed Lin's men leaving Jax's house the night Tara was murdered. Nero meets Lin and tells him that Jax and Chibs will be alone and they will be surrendering the heroin they stole. As Lin takes Jax and Chibs prisoners, Stockton police confront Lin and his men, and free Jax and Chibs, a trap set up by SAMCRO. Jax and Lin begin to brawl with Jax gaining the upper hand and pressing him about killing Tara. As Lin keeps denying any role in Tara's murder, Jarry gives Chibs heads up that Charming sheriffs will be in Stockton. With no other option, Jax and SAMCRO abort their plan for revenge to evade arrest as Charming sheriffs arrive to arrest Lin and his men for possession of heroin. SAMCRO later kill the remaining Chinese that weren't with Lin.

With Gemma and Wendy at Redwoody due to a lockdown and Unser investigating the case of Tara's murder along with Jarry, Juice is alone at the motel. He reads about the massacre at Diosa in the paper and grows increasingly paranoid that an Asian man at the motel is working for Lin. When the man enters his room, Juice knocks him out and kills him. However, it turns out the man works at the front desk and had a master set of keys. Knowing that Juice would become more unstable and dangerous if he stays, Gemma decides to take Juice to Oregon to stay at her father's home. When he notices Gemma took a different direction and said Nero would help him, Juice reveals the truth of why the club wanted him dead. He knows that Gemma lied to him and is planning to kill him. The two have a brief scuffle and Gemma crashes the SUV. Gemma tries to run for it, but Juice stops her. She pleads for her life. Meanwhile SAMCRO make their way back to Charming.

Gemma, alone in the middle of nowhere, goes to a diner and calls Wendy to pick her up. As Gemma bonds with a waitress who's a single mother, Wendy shows up with Unser and he asks Gemma why Juice would want to kill her. Unser shares the information with Gemma that Lin was arrested and he wants Gemma to identify Lin as Tara's killer. Gemma refuses, but later Jax tells her that the DA wants Lin to make a deal. Reluctantly, Gemma identifies Lin as one of Tara's killers.

Juice, now on his own, is desperate to find any means of transport. He turns to the Mayans for a route to Mexico in exchange for intel on SAMCRO. Interested, the Mayans decide to take it to the table. However, it turns out that the Mayans have called SAMCRO and explain that they have Juice. Jax and Alvarez work out a deal whereby if SAMCRO hands over the gun business to the Mayans instead of August Marks, then the Mayans will hand over Juice. Nero is also a prisoner of the Mayans due to his role in helping Jax set up Lin. Wondering why Juice is there, Juice explains to Nero that due to revealing he killed Darvany to him, the club wants him but he couldn't face them because he was afraid to die. Nero was free to go and notices Gemma's truck in the garage. Nero goes to T-M and tells Gemma of the situation he was in, and that Juice was captured as well and to be collected by SAMCRO, making Gemma nervous. With the deal worked out, Alvarez hands over Juice to SAMCRO.

The next day, Jax gives Juice his vest back, with Juice purposely shooting at some police to get himself arrested. It is revealed that Juice made a deal with SAMCRO: if he kills Lin, then he would be pardoned of his crimes and back into SAMCRO. If unsuccessful, then Tully would execute Juice. It is also known that throughout this season, SAMCRO were helping a mother named Loutreesha Haddem and her son named Ajay McQueen, by keeping them alive from August Marks. As SAMCRO and the Mayans are making their move against Marks, Bobby has been attacked by a mercenary named Moses Cartwright, who is hired by August Marks. He tortures Bobby for information on the location of Loutreesha and Ajay. Moses carves out Bobby's right eye and sends it to SAMCRO, leaving them distraught.

With Juice being captured by SAMCRO, Gemma grows increasingly nervous thinking Juice might expose her secret to the club. Happy and Rat tell Gemma that Jax needs her for club business, but won't explain why. Thinking Juice exposed the truth to Jax and that Jax wants to kill her, Gemma goes to her house and places a gun in her purse. Before she leaves with Happy and Rat Boy, she holds Thomas and weeps by telling him, "Killing your mommy was an accident." Unbeknownst to her, Abel overhears her. When Gemma arrives at the cabin, Montez shows her Loutreesha and Ajay, and tells her that she was there to take care of the mother and son. Realizing that she had misunderstood, and feeling relieved, Gemma plays her part by helping the family.

Feeling responsible for Bobby's torture, Jax plans to give up his desire for vengeance to rescue Bobby, but Chibs reassures him that everybody, including Bobby, knew the risks and Tara was the reason why Jax wanted revenge. After finding information of Gib O'Leary's whereabouts, SAMCRO heads over there, only to find Gib's mother, her boyfriend, and her son shooting at them as a misunderstanding. Gib's mother reveals to SAMCRO that Jury is in fact Gib's father. Jax later confronts Jury to see if he sold SAMCRO out to Lin for killing his son. Jury tells Jax that despite wanting to kill Jax himself, he would never betray the club. Jax wasn't convinced, but Jury tells Jax that he has become the "poison" that his father didn't want him to be. Jax reminds Jury that he wasn't a club member when John was still alive. Jury reveals to Jax that although that's true, John trusted Jury more than anyone precisely because he wasn't a club member, and Jury became suspicious on the day that John died. He also reveals that even though Clay sabotaged his bike, John would've noticed it from the moment he started it, speculating that John died by suicide, not homicide. Jax doesn't believe Jury, but Jury tells him it doesn't matter how he died just as long as John never sees what Jax had become. A fight between Jax and Jury breaks out, leading to Jax killing Jury. Gaines, The VP of Indian Hills, wants answers about what has happened, as Jax explains that Jury admitted to selling out SAMCRO to Lin. Gaines, with no other option, is forced to head back to Indian Hills, but he will report all the details of what has happened to the other SOA charters. Jax and Chibs talk about what has happened that led to much chaos, with Jax seeing it as self-defense, Gaines seeing it as murder, and the rest seeing it as total confusion between the two.

Meanwhile, Moses explains the situation to Bobby and asks him for information on the mother and son or Moses and his squad will torture Bobby again. Bobby refuses to give up intel, but Moses gives Bobby 24 hours for Bobby to give up. With the deadline almost up, SAMCRO calls Moses just in time to negotiate. However, Moses and his squad torture Bobby again due to SAMCRO thinking their deal is negotiable. Moses sends another package to SAMCRO, this time sending Bobby's fingers from his left hand.

Now left with no other options, Jax brings Grant and the pastor's body, which is the pastor's head and arms sown onto another torso, to August Marks in exchange for Bobby. With SAMCRO and Marks' crew leaving, Jax and August stay to make the exchange. Before Bobby is returned to Jax, August pulls out a gun and tells Jax there are consequences for his betrayal. August then shoots Bobby in the head, killing him. Devastated by Bobby's death, Jax has August arrested by putting the blame on him for killing the pastor, revealing where the rest of the body is buried to the DA.

Unser and Jarry continue to investigate the mystery of Tara and Roosevelt's murders. The two become baffled that Gemma and Juice identified Dun, one of Lin's men, as the killer. They later become suspicious after finding out Dun was arrested in Las Vegas on the same night Tara was murdered. The two agree not to tell anyone about finding out about the lie.

Moses decides to attack SAMCRO on Marks' behalf by confronting Tyler, the leader of the One-Niners, for any intel on SAMCRO. They capture Rat Boy and T.O. and torture them the same way they did to Bobby. T.O appears to give in after being told that he would lose his left eye. Once Moses and his men reach the location that T.O. provided, it turns out to be trap set by SAMCRO and the Aryan Brotherhood. They kill all of them except for the wounded Moses, who Jax and Chibs torture the same way he did Bobby, and then kill him.

Abel, who is trying to deal with Gemma's confession, self-inflicts scratches on his face but blames it on his little brother Thomas. This acting-out takes a more drastic step when he uses a fork to cut himself, but this time, blames it on Gemma. Confused, Jax asks why Abel would lie and inflict pain on himself. Nero and Wendy suggest that since losing Tara, he may have felt Gemma was trying to replace her in order to become a "new mommy". Due to the school calling child services, Jax tells Gemma that she can no longer be alone with Abel, otherwise they may take Abel away from him. After talking with Nero, Gemma decides to go with him to Norco to let things calm down with Abel. At home, Jax tells Abel the truth that Wendy was his "first mommy" and he and Wendy will always be just friends, making Wendy joyfully tear up. After being tucked into bed, Abel asks Jax if that is why "grandma killed my other mommy" so his "first mommy" could be with him. Jax is stunned.

Jax stays up all night thinking about Abel's question. Feeling guilty and not wanting to keep any secrest from Jax after he revealed the truth to Abel, Wendy tells Jax that Juice was staying at her apartment while she was in rehab, and that she, Gemma, and Unser were trying to help him get out of Charming. Now totally confused, Jax heads over to Unser and asks him to set up a meeting with Juice. Unser agrees, but not before threatening Jax that if he sabotages anything involving the case, he would stop helping SAMCRO and the family. Jax met Juice who had already killed Lin in jail. Lin had told Juice that it was Barosky who had revealed the location of Lin's stolen guns not Jury White. Jax tells Juice he knew about him staying at Wendy's and asks why would Gemma be helping him. After Jax tells Juice about Abel's self-inflicted wounds, Juice tearfully describes the events surrounding Tara's murder to Jax, who sobs and is visibly shaken up. He thanks Juice for telling him the truth and states, "I'll make sure it's quick."

Juice later calls Gemma from his cell and tells her that he has told the truth to Jax, leaving her stunned and devastated. Unable to face Jax, Gemma packs her luggage and goes to see Nero one last time. Gemma declares her love for Nero as Nero asks her what's going on just as Jax calls Nero. Jax asks him for Gemma's location and tells him the truth about Tara's murder. Heartbroken, Nero tells Gemma to go as he cries over the fact that Gemma killed Tara.

Jax receives word from the SOA Indian Hills that there would be a forum involving the SOA organization on whether Jax was defending himself from Jury or if he committed the murder of an SOA president. Jax fills in the rest of SAMCRO with the truth about Gemma, leaving them stunned as well. Jax and Nero talk about how to come out from this tragedy, with Nero telling Jax that a son killing his mother would be a "wound too deep to heal". Jax sobs while wondering how Gemma could kill Tara. Before leaving town, Gemma stops by Abel's school to say goodbye. She gives him JT's ring through the schoolyard fence as his teacher approaches. She tells Gemma that she shouldn't be there and that she has to report the incident. Gemma thanks her for looking out for her grandson. Gemma drives to an unknown place.

Gemma sleeps in the stolen car at the truck stop overnight. She meets a truck driver named Milo, and after bonding, she asks him to take her to the nursing home to see her father, Nate. He accepts, and drops her off as they wave goodbye to each other. Gemma goes the front office in order to see Nate; however, there was no record of Gemma due to Tara checking Nate in and giving the nursing home her information. Gemma later sees her father after giving Wendy's information. She apologizes to Nate, but is told by Nate that God forgives everyone. After saying goodbye to Nate, he later says his daughter used to play with flowers when she was young, therefore remembering who Gemma was. Gemma smiles before leaving the nursing home.

Meanwhile, Juice, who was beaten by security guards in the pay of Tully, is sent to the infirmary, but he is confronted by Lin's men. They task him with killing Tully in exchange for protection, but not before they rape him. During lunch, Juice approaches Tully, but tells him of the Chinese's plan to kill him. Juice then tells Tully that if he were to kill Tully, it could impact the relationship between SAMCRO and the Aryan Brotherhood. Juice gives the knife to Tully, and Tully's men start a fight elsewhere in the room as a diversion, and Tully takes the opportunity to stab Juice several times in the neck so that he'll bleed out quickly.

As for Jax (who is wanted for assaulting Unser), he arranges a meeting with Unser, and reveals the truth to Unser, leaving him tearfully stunned as well. At Redwoody, the SOA organization with SAMDINO president Packer rules the forum. Jax tells the truth about killing Jury and lying about Jury being the rat. Not wanting news of a president killing another president to reach the other charters, they demand a Mayhem vote, to which Jax agrees in exchange for the club's "unwritten bylaw" to be thrown out. Jax receives a call from Wendy, who tells him Gemma was visiting her father at a nursing home. Jax decides to head to Oregon to see Gemma. Wendy also reveals this to Nero. Knowing Jax would kill Gemma, Nero sends Unser to arrest Gemma in order to prevent Jax from killing his mother. Unser arrives in Nate's home and see Gemma looking at her pictures and recollecting. Unser tries to persuade Gemma to come with him, but she refuses, knowing her fate is already sealed. Before Unser can call for backup, Jax arrives and tries to persuade Unser to leave, but Unser refuses by stating, "This is all I got left." Jax understands that Unser will not leave, and kills him by shooting him in the heart. Jax and Gemma talk, with Jax asking Gemma about his brother's birth and death certificates as well as his father's manuscript. Gemma asks Jax if they could go outside in the garden, to which he agrees. As Jax levels his gun to kill Gemma, he seems unable to go through with it, but Gemma reassures him that he has to do it, "because it's who we are". Now, with his mother's confidence, Jax shoots her in the back of the head. Jax goes home and is comforted by Wendy, who does not know what he has done, and the two have sex that night.

Jax wakes up and begins to burn everything in his storage unit relating to the Sons of Anarchy. He goes to the cemetery and places his "SO" and "NS" rings on Opie's tombstone and his wedding ring on Tara's. SAMCRO patches in T.O., making him the first African-American to be patched in SAMCRO. They later confront Jax asking why the other SOA charters are still in Charming, but Jax promises them they will know soon enough and that everything will be alright. As SAMCRO leaves, Jax pulls Chibs aside and fills him in the details of the forum. Chibs is heartbroken that Jax will face Mayhem, but Jax tells him that leaders are faced with tough choices, and that it is necessary. Chibs is left with no choice but to follow Jax's chosen course of action. SAMCRO has been helping the Mayans and the One-Niners to end their feud by killing the remaining Chinese. They also plan to deliver the gun pipeline to the Mayans, while the One-Niners take control of the heroin trade. They lure Connor into a trap by having Declan pretending to escape from Real IRA. As Roarke prepares to execute Connor for his betrayal, Jax kills Roarke and his men as they explain to Connor that he will be giving the gun pipeline to the Mayans while they protect him.

Jax goes back to T-M to recover his father's motorcycle. Before he rides out, Nero shows up and they have a conversation about the whereabouts of Gemma. Jax explains to Nero that he's leaving and he wants Wendy and his sons to leave Charming as soon as they sell his and Tara's houses and T-M, and to move wherever they want or to stay at Norco with Nero if they wish. Jax also says that he is a criminal and killer, and he can't be with his sons, and he wants Nero to be a father figure for them. Jax says goodbye to Abel, Thomas, Wendy, and Chucky before he leaves. Nero knows he will not see Jax again, but Wendy and the boys do not.

Jax visits DA Patterson at her office as he reveals the truth behind Tara's murder and gives her the location to find Gemma and Unser, although he does not tell her that they are dead. He also reveals to Patterson that by the end of the day, the violence in Stockton will be over. When Patterson asks what will happen at the end of the day, Jax replies, "The bad guys lose", and leaves.

Jax kills Barosky for his betrayal to SAMCRO, and he waits outside the courthouse and kills August Marks and his assistant, fulfilling his revenge for Bobby. Jax goes to see SAMCRO after they were forced to have a Mayhem vote for Jax. Jax cuts off his president patch and gives it to Chibs, and then Chibs gives his VP patch to Tig, which Jax notes is a "good choice". It seems that Jax is about to be executed. However, Chibs shoots Happy in the arm with Jax's gun as a ruse to enable the club to provide a cover story about how Jax escaped. Jax shares an emotional goodbye with SAMCRO. Jax says to them "I got this", which are the last words that Opie had said to Jax. SAMCRO sees Jax ride off one last time. Elsewhere, Jarry puts out an APB on Jax.

Jax visits the site where his father was killed, and talking to himself observes that although he couldn't save himself, it wasn't too late for him to save Abel and Thomas, and he vows that the boys will not find out about "this life of chaos". As Jax prepares to ride away, he is spotted by a police officer and Jax purposely shoots at him without harming him, to initiate a chase. Many officers on bikes and in patrol cars join the chase. Elsewhere, SAMCRO awaits news about Jax. Patterson finds Barosky's body while thinking about what Jax had said to her earlier. The forensic investigators zip up Gemma's corpse in a body bag. Nero takes Wendy and the boys to Norco. Abel is seen in the back of the car playing with his "SON" ring, the one Gemma had given him before she left Charming. During the chase, Jax sees a semi-trailer truck (the truck driver turns out to be Milo) heading towards him. He smiles, lets go of his bike's handlebar, and spreads out his arms as he drives into the truck's path to share a fate similar to his father's. The last scene is of two crows eating wine-soaked bread and flying away once they hear a crash. Blood begins to seep onto the road and the bread. Jax's body is not shown.
