Soft grunge

Soft grunge is a fashion trend that originated as a form of 1990s appropriation. Soft grunge is a bowdlerization of early 1990s grunge culture, that also incorporates elements of contemporary subculture and gothic subculture.[1][2][3][4]

History

Soft grunge originated on Tumblr around 2010.[5]

Fashion imagery

Some hallmarks of "soft grunge" include: the usage of studs, platform sneakers, spikes, floral patterns, flannel, Jeffrey Campbell shoes, and inverted crosses on clothing and blog background.

Some music involved with the soft grunge or pastel goth style are Melanie Martinez, Halsey, Lana Del Rey, Marina and the Diamonds, Grimes, Charli XCX, , Azealia Banks, and Sky Ferreira. [1][6]
