Sipajhar is one of the main towns in middle Assam or in Darrang district. It is about 50 km away from Guwahati, capital city of Assam. It is one of the tehsils of Indian state Assam. National Highway 15 (India) goes through the town.It is about 15  km away from the headquarters town of Darrang district, Mangaldoi. The town is also a major bus stop .

Sipajhar is a legislative constituency and it is a part of Mangaldoi (Lok Sabha constituency).

Education

Sipajhar is a renowned place in education in entire Darrang district. The major educational institutions of Sipajhar are Sipajhar Higher Secondary and Multi-Purpose School (Estd. 1930), Sipajhar Academy (Estd. 1966) Sipajhar College (Estd. 1971), Sipajhar B.Ed. College (Estd. 1994) and Sipajhar B.J. Girls' Higher Secondary School. The area has a glorious history in the field of education. Prominent academicians like Headmaster Bireswar Sarma, Holiram Nath Sahariah, Amulya Barua et al. created a history in the field of education by establishing the first High School in Sipajhar namely Sipajhar High School. Later, the school was upgraded to Sipajhar Higher Secondary and Multi-Purpose School. Recently, the school has celebrated its 75 th anniversary (Diamond Jubilee).Another major achievement in the field of education was the establishment of the first Girls' High School namely Sipajhar B.J. Girls High School. The only institute for Higher education in Sipajhar is Sipajhar College. the College was established in 1971. The college provides mainstream education in Arts stream. The college is going to introduce science stream very shortly. There is also a College for Teachers' Training in Sipajhar (Sipajhar B.Ed. College). It is situated at a minimum distance of 2 km from the main town. The college provides quality education and so students from various parts of the country such as Kerala, Himachal Pradesh, West Bengal etc. come every year to study in this college. Besides these, there are many High Schools, High Madrasa Schools, L.P.,M.E. Schools, Sanskrit Schools(Toals) at different parts of Sipajhar area.
