Simanta Shekhar (Assamese: সীমান্ত শ্বেখৰ, born 18 May 1982) is an Indian singer, composer and a music producer from Assam.[1][2] He does folk fusion and Indipop.

Early life

Simanta was born in Tihu, Nalbari, Assam to Daya Ram Barman and Arati Barman.

Career

He has featured in the famous track ‘Jhumoor’ in Coke Studio (India) in 2013 Episode 5 along with Papon that has more than 6 lakh views on YouTube.[3] He has contributed in many movies viz. Pokhila etc. and has released many popular songs like Gaanja Liya,[4] Loi Ahisu Camera, Mur Babe, Degar Mari Mori Jam, Beauty Bettera, Jilele Jilele to name a few. Simanta has performed in numerous shows abroad like the Annual two-day event held by the United Assam Association of the United Kingdom (Uaauk),[5] Sahaj Parab- the Bengali root music festival[6] etc. He has also supported causes like First Direct Hair Implantation (DHI) clinic in Guwahati.[7]

Personal life

Simanta lives in Guwahati with his wife Preety Kongana who is an actress and a model and with his two year old son Kaavyik Shekhar.
