Shivranjani Singh (born 27 August 1994) is an Indian playback singer. Her career began at the young age of 14 when she won a singing based reality show on Disney i.e. Hannah Montana – The Big Popstar Dream Contest in 2008. Her first step into Bollywood was with the song "Solah Baras ki" in 2013 for the movie 16. She then went on to sing for various other Bollywood movies like Welcome to Karachi, Baankey ki Crazy Baraat, Dee Saturday Night, Angry Young Man and Hate Story 3. However, she came into prominence with the release of her song "Oh Boy" from the movie Kyaa Kool Hain Hum 3.

Life and career

1994-2008

Shivranjani was born and brought up in Himachal Pradesh, district Mandi and later shifted base to Mumbai. she belongs to Himachal Pradesh with Mandi being her hometown. Her father Shakti Singh had a musical background having had a few albums and Bollywood releases himself amongst also being a cricketer and government official. Her mother Mala Singh is a business woman, having won many awards for her green-entrepreneurship, both nationally and internationally. She had always excelled at singing, dancing and acting during her schooling. She started considering singing as a career once she participated in a singing based reality show called Hannah Montana- The Big Popstar Dream Contest on Disney Channel. She emerged as the winner amongst 2 lac participants from across the India. A trip to Los Angeles to meet the whole cast of Hannah Montana and see the shooting of an episode and a signed Gibson guitar by Miley Cyrus were just few of her prizes. Coincidentally, she met her icon Miley Cyrus on her birthday i.e. 27 August. She also got featured on the cover of Disney Adventures magazine and had a music video shot which aired on Disney Channel.

2009-2012

Shivranjani had decided to first finish her studies and then begin her music struggle. She was preparing for higher studies abroad when she was offered the song in 16 by music director Gaurav Dargaonkar.At the same time she was also dubbing for many other music directors and found herself in a dilemma. She chose to continue her studies in Mumbai itself and jump at any opportunity she received.

2013-2014

Shivranjani Singh started pursuing a graduation in Biochemistry along with her singing dream. In the meanwhile she was offered certain acting assignments for television and small-budget movies but she maintained she only wanted to pursue singing as her career. She recorded songs with music directors like Ankit Tiwari and Amjad-Nadeem.

2015-2016

Her first big break was offered to her by music director Rochak Kohli for the movie Welcome to Karachi. She had 2 songs in the movie namely "Lalla Lalla Lori" with Vishal Dadhlani and "Boat ma" with Mika Singh. The very year she also had another release from the movie "Baankey Ki Crazy Baraat". She sang the song "Baby Modern Modern" along with Sonu Nigam for music director Vijaya Shanker. 2015 ended on a good note for her by having her first solo song in the musical hit Hate Story 3. She sang the track "Love To Hate You" for the young dynamic music-director Amaal Mallik. Meanwhile, she was noticed by the legendary music duo Sajid-Wajid. She started performing with Sajid-Wajid and even toured America with them in their super hit Unstoppable concerts. Apart from this, her track Feed My Soul in collaboration with Florida based music producers , Cody Morris and Sudeep Sinha, was released on trap nation’s channel and received a great response in the underground Trap music scene in the United States.

2016-present

Shivranjani’s year started with a bang with the release of her item song on 1 January called "Oh boy" with Wajid Khan from the movie Kya Kool Hai Hum 3, composed by Sajid-Wajid. This song had much buzz around it as it marked the first song of actress Mandana Karimi , from Big Boss 9 fame, in Bollywood. The song benefitted from the controversial nature of the movie which was dubbed as India’s first porn com. Shivranjani Singh came into prominence with this song. She also sang the title track of the same movie with Benny Dayal, yet again composed by Sajid-Wajid. She is currently working with many music directors and performing in various events and live shows across the country.

Musical style and influences

Shivranjani grew up listening to artists of the west like Beyoncé, Shakira, Celine Dion, Whitney Houston, etc. She is thus primarily a western vocalist. Her independent music consists of pop ballads and melodic-EDM. She started out making covers of songs like "Titanium" by Sia, "Underneath your Clothes" by Shakira, and so on. She writes and composes her own English tracks. Bollywood music was always a part of her influences as her father was a singer too. However, she never received any formal training in Hindustani classical music. She is now learning contemporary Hindustani classical. Her greatest role model from the Indian music scene is Lata Mangeshkar. Her favourite vocalist from the west is Christina Aguilera. Her favourite music directors, as she calls them her favourite five, from Bollywood are A.R. Rehman, Sajid-Wajid, Amit Trivedi, Pritam and Vishal-Shekhar. It is her dream to record with all 5 of them and she has ticked one off from that bucket list already.

Name change

Shivranjani in her earlier songs went by the stage name “ Shivi “ in songs such as Lalla Lalla Lori and Boat ma. She then started using her full real name Shivranjani Singh in her official son credits, which is also a raag in Hindustani classical Music. She still uses the stage name Shivi for her international music releases.
