Shelton Sheriff's Department

Badge of the Department

The Shelton Sheriff's Department is "responsible for the service of judicial process"[1] in the city of Shelton, Connecticut. It is not to be confused with the Shelton Police Department. The Shelton Sheriff's Department is not a law enforcement agency. Members are political appointees and receive no salary and derive income from fees charged to serve legal papers. Shelton sheriffs can only serve judicial process in the City of Shelton and are unique for being one of the few sheriff's departments in Connecticut since 2000 when the county sheriff's departments in Connecticut were abolished and transformed into state judicial marshals. The head of the department is currently Sheriff Carl Sylvester.
