Shaheila binti Abdul Majid (born 3 January 1965 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia), popularly known as Sheila Majid is a Malaysian female pop singer who is best known for her 1986 song, "Sinaran". She has also appeared in Malaysian television commercial and brand ambassador for Reckitt Benckiser's Strepsils (available in Malaysia, Singapore, Brunei and Timor-Leste) from 1 February 2013 to now. She's is dubbed as "Queen of Jazz" in Malaysia.
Biography
Sheila Majid was born in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on 3 January 1965. Her mother is a native of Kuala Lumpur of Mandailing descent whose great-great grandfather was a friend of Yap Ah Loy.[1] Her father was a Javanese, whose great grandfather had settled in Malaya after surviving a shipwreck en route to Java from a pilgrimage in Mecca. Her paternal lineage can be traced back to Raden Hussein, brother of Raden Hassan, the first Muslim sultan of Demak; both were princes of Probowo Wijoyo V of Majapahit.[1]
She attended schools at Convent Goodshepherd Kindergarten, Methodist Girls Primary School and Methodist Girls Secondary School, all in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. She was married to Roslan Aziz, the producer of her previous albums, but has since divorced him. Sheila performed at the Tokyo Music Festival in 1989.
